Overview

It is, of course, possible to explore the ruins of the Acropolis independently. But without an understanding of ancient Greek religion, culture, and history, it can be tough to tell exactly what you’re looking at—let alone what it all means. This guided walking tour takes the confusion out of the Acropolis and leaves you free to continue exploring once you’re done.

What to Expect

Greet your guide in Central Athens and then stroll to the Acropolis, pay your entrance fee, and head inside. Enter through the south side, stopping at the Theatre of Dionysus and the Sanctuary of Dionysus.

Inside the ancient citadel, ascend the sacred hill. Your guide will explain the names and meaning of sights like the Parthenon, with its missing marbles; the Temple of Athena Nike; the Erechtheion; and the Propylaea gateway.

At the summit, savor sweeping views of the modern city as your guide points out surrounding monuments, including Areopagus hill and the ancient agora, a meeting place that was once the beating heart of ancient Athens. The tour concludes here, leaving you free to explore at your leisure or make your own way back to your hotel.

Excellent tour

Great tour to cover some of the highlights in just over half a day. Easy meeting point, well organised and very informative. Rest breaks built in as well. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Experience

Our tour guide provided a lot of insight into the Acropolis and Greek History during this time period. She was very enthusiastic and very patient considering we had an obnoxious American family on our tour that were quite rude and disrespectful to her. Despite, this...More

Great tour

Excellent. Would really suggest 1st tour in morning at 8:30. Not so hot and some shade. Our guide was Artimes. She was excellent. Looking up at Parthenon we were worried we wouldn't make it. But she got us there with no problem.

90 minutes with the guide, but you can stay on the grounds as long as you like afterwards. It was just the right amount of time and a small group.
