This hike was amazing the views were fantastic from start to finish
Our tour guide Sarah was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout this full day walk .
The group was 15 people which was plenty large enough .
The mini bus pick up drop off was efficient and the driver again friendly

Would definitely recommend this walk and Lido tours

This is a great hike. Our guide was very friendly and safety concious, a good thing when hiking along the side of a cliff. We had a group of 13, and she set a brisk pace initially (I think to make sure we'd be able to keep up) but let off as the climb became steeper towards Pico Ruivo. The hike itself took about 5 hours, with the rest of the time at the beginning to drive around town to pick everyone up, a coffee and comfort stop near the starting point, and then the drive back down at the end. FWIW, the first 2/3 are the hardest. Once you get to Pic Ruivo, it's an easy down hill stroll proving your jelly legs don't give you problems! The views were amazing.
Signing up was easy. I called from my hotel. The tour company knew what hotel I was calling from, so they took my first name and room number, picked me up the next morning, and I paid the guide cash at the end. Easy peasy.

Lido Tours seems a wel organized company. The booking proces is easy and they respond to your emails. All the guides are very nice and professional. This very popular and more demanding walk was done with 21-22 people and just the one guide. Even in September 2021, still in the pandemic, this hard walk was overcrowded since all the (many) tour companies keep to the same schedule (more or less 9 till 5). For these walk I would advice to find a smaller company or guide who can avoid these times and can take you early or later in the day.

Probably the most beautiful walk of Madeira. We did several walks with Lido and their excellent walking guide Sarah, and enjoyed it very much. I was impressed how serious Sarah took her role as guide and how responsible she felt for the group.

A must do experience if you are in good health and fit. The views are fabulous, the guide was knowledgeable, experienced and friendly, and the driving was excellent. You definitely need good shoes or boots but will have a great day out.
We enjoyed the day so much we booked another Lido tour, the Larana full day trip with views of porto Santo and the Sao Lourenco peninsula. Different terrain but another lovely day out. Thanks

Breathtaking scenery. On par with some of the best views in Europe and further afield. The tour is labelled as 'difficult'. I would say that it is generally a moderate hike with some specific steep climbs (being the difficult parts). If you have bad knees I would think twice, but there was a range of people who were on the tour and if you have a generally good level of fitness you will get by, with a few puffs at the end! There are stops for photos and discussions about the environment there.

Even if you go in July/August time, it is wise to take a rain/wind jacket (they aren't joking when they tell you to), because at 1,800m above sea level, if the clouds come over and the wind picks up, it can get a little cool. It will also likely be warm. So be sensible and wear clothes for warm hiking with a jacket if it cools.

Our guide was Sara, who was also our guide for the 25 fonts tour. Sara was a wonderful local guide and has an impressive knowledge of the local fauna and flora. She has a real passion for what she does.

Booked twice, cancelled twice in May due to cloud/wind at the top.
No problem with that as weather is unpredictable but the alternative hikes were average at best.
First time, cliff top hike was quite good, 2nd time the Levada hike was very flat and pretty dull.
Also picked up first and dropped off last when located near centre of Funchal which meant an extra hour in the bus both ways didn’t help (2nd time dropped off after the guide!)
Guides were good/helpful explaining stuff during hike. Driver friendly.

We couldn't have asked for a better day. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and went at a steady pace so we could have a good hike but also have time to take in the views. We were very lucky with the weather so we were able to see the spectacular views all day. The route is challenging enough for a regular hiker (myself being 36), but was a bit too much for my mum (67 whose active but prefers flatter routes). It was around 20 degrees and sunny but very windy/chilly in places so take plenty of layers and a hat/gloves.
One of my favorite experiences so far!

Absolutely amazing walk with a fabulous guide, Sara! If you’re going to do one hike, this is the one to do! My husband and I have a reasonable level of fitness and found this one challenging however totally worthwhile – one of the best walks and amazing views we have done in our life! Although I’m slightly scared of heights, there is a good path throughout and railings at points of danger which was very reassuring . Moreover, Sara was very attentive and gave excellent safety advice. She was extremely knowledgeable on the floor and fauna and really added to the experience- thank you so much!
