Overview

Get the insider's version of Amsterdam's Red Light District history and culture on this night walking tour, with background info you wouldn't get from simply strolling on your own. Follow your guide past buzzing coffee shops, nightlife hot spots, and local hangouts while listening to commentary on the famous neighborhood. Highlights include Chinatown, the Museum of Prostitution, and the city's first condom shop.

What to Expect

Meet your guide and group of fellow adventurers in central Amsterdam's Dam Square. After a short orientation, set off on foot through the famous Red Light District for a thorough understanding of the Dutch people's more liberal, yet regulated, approach to many acts and substances criminalized in other countries, such as sex work and marijuana. Along the walk, you'll learn the history of the neighborhood and stop by highlights that many tours miss, avoiding some of the awkwardness of exploring the area on your own.

Take in the neighborhood's vibe as you pass the legendary coffee shops, nightlife hot spots, and red-lit windows with services on offer. Your guide will talk at length about the origins, history, and modern-day iterations of the district and what it means to Amsterdam's culture as a whole. Highlights include the Hangover Information Center, the Museum of Prostitution, the world's first condom shop, and some of the city's most popular coffee shops.

At the conclusion of your tour, you can get pointers on where to explore further on your own from your guide.

When you tell people you’re going to Amsterdam, there is often a look that you get, a wry smirk that suggests they think your time there is going to include debauchery! So, obviously when you mention that you went on a tour of the Red...More

Really interesting

A really interesting tour - small enough numbers to make it personal. Our guide Martijn really added to the experience with his enthusiasm and knowledge.

Good Morning! The tour ends in the alleys of the Quarter and you can return with the guide back to Dam Square or walk around freely in the district.
