Overview
Step away from the tourist trail to discover Venice’s culinary history from the days when the city was a major spice trade port through to the present day. As you learn about the influence of Venice’s maritime history, learn where the locals go to eat and hear tips for Venetian dishes to try. Explore Rialto Market, and then visit a bakery, butchers and centuries-old spice shop. Cap it all with visits to renowned ‘cichetti’ bars and enjoy the Venetian take on Spanish tapas with wine.
Highlights
  • Skip the tourist traps and visit eateries that local Venetians frequent
  • Learn all about the city’s rich food heritage from your guide
  • Enjoy cicchetti, a pasta meal, several glasses of wine, and more
  • Take a gondola ride across the Grand Canal
What to Expect
Meet your guide at the fountain at Campo San Giacomo di Rialto, near the Rialto Bridge. Your tour starts in the morning and lasts through lunchtime, so be sure to come hungry, as you’ll be doing lots of tasting. First, head to the bustling Rialto Market, where locals come to buy daily food essentials. Interact with stallholders, and discuss Venice’s rich food heritage with your guide. Then, board a gondola to cross the Grand Canal to Cannaregio, one of Venice’s most lively districts that’s off the typical tourist trail. Stop at a local bar for cicchetti—Venice’s answer to Spanish tapas—and a glass of wine, prosecco, or spritz. Then visit a second bar to sample fritti, traditional fried snacks. Your final stop is at a neighborhood trattoria, where you’ll enjoy a classic plate of pasta and a glass of wine. The tour concludes back near the Rialto Bridge.

An excellent tour with a very professional guide - Kristina. The food was delicious and catered very well for the dietary requirements of my wife who is a vegetarian. Thank you - we both loved it!

We really enjoyed the food walking tour. I don’t think it goes daily so double check the dates. Also the one we took did include quite a bit of seafood so if that’s not your thing or aren’t very adventurous food wise I’d... More
