        Discover Cividale with Sonia
Sonia is an outstanding guide who loves and understands the beautiful region of her birth. Her knowledge of the history of the Fruili region makes the charming medieval city of Cividale come alive. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Sonia and hope to return soon

        Wonderful relaxing day!
We contacted Sonia for a half day cruise around the bay of Trieste and, bless her, she tried to get in touch several times to confirm the booking which I'm sure was frustrating. We were given excellent directions to Villaggio del Pescatore where we would be met by the skipper, Gianni. Lovely yacht and Gianni was a perfect host. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the sights and Gianni explained everything when asked. We stopped for a dip in the sea, lovely at 20+ degrees and then sat at the back cooling off coming back. Sonia was extremely patient and followed up by email asking if we had enjoyed it. The price was very reasonable and it was fab to have the boat to ourselves. Highly recommended!

        Wine country at its best
Rolling hills, ancient villages, and friendly people. Must see the cities of Cividale del Fruili and Udine. Oh! and great wine. For a wonderful overnight stay at a winery our favorite is Grillo Iole. Be sure to eat dinner at the unique Antica Trattoria in Mernico.

        Smart, fun and great guide!
We were fortunate to spend 4 days travelling throughout Friuli with Sonia last fall. She picked us up every morning and took us through the region visitng the historic areas, eating great food and providing us with tips for the time on our own. This is a very special region and having Sonia who is a native of Friuli share the history was an exceptional experience. I wouldn't hesitate to spend time with her again.

        Cooking class to remember
Visiting Rosinas kitchen i Cividale del Friuli is a true pleasure! Our group of five interested amateur chefs were placed in her home around the ancient stove, given aprons and prepared recepies for making a splendid Friulian lunch together. Ingredients picked from the lovely garden outside as well as the local market, ensured fabolous taste, flavours and looks. The organizer Sonia of Discover Friuli worked together with Rosina and us, translating and laughing as we managed through the three courses. A memorable feast, easy communication and great fun. We recommend Sonia and Discover Fruili as a very positive partner if you are looking for local gems in the Friuli region!

What a delightful area, still unknown to most Americans
We promised our 3 teenage daughters we would take them to Venice, but we were interested in staying in a wine growing region nearby. We researched Tuscany and then Piedmont regions, then my wife came across the Fruili region which is known for its white wines. The region is north of Trieste and west of Slovenia. What a find. This area is so rich in history, culture, beauty and of course wine. We preferred Trieste to Venice with its beautiful port, streets lined with cafes, steep hillsrising up from the sea, and the lush forests surrounding the city. In the Fruili region we visited the UNESCO World Heritage city of Cividale crossing over the Devil's Bridge to enter the medieval town. We stayed in Gorizia which is dominated by a huge castle fortress on the hill. For wine tasting we went to Prepotto and Dolegna del Collio to taste wines from the unique grapes of the region....Tocai Friulano, Picolit, Malvasia, Refosco and Schioppettino. We visited Enoteca dello Schioppettino, Vigna Petrussa and Venica & Venica.

I wanted to visit my uncle's grave in the Udine War Cemetery, and was reluctant to rent a car (we were staying in Venice). I found the "Discover Friuli" website & contacted Sonia. She taylor-made an itinerary for us, including a cooking demonstation with Rosina (really great), winery tour & tasting and visit to Cividale. We were picked up from the train station at Udine and delivered back there after a great day. Sonia arranged for our train tickets to be sent to our hotel in Venice, so no hassles for us there either.
Friuli is a great part of Italy with an interesting history, great wines & cuisine; and is well worth a visit. We plan to return and spend more time there, and will certainly use "Discover Friuli" again.

Sonia with Discover Friuli arranged a customized 6-day tour of the wine, food, and historical sights in the Friuli region of northeastern Italy and into western Slovenia for my husband and I on our 30th anniversary. It was everything we had hoped for and more. She arranged for everything exactly as we requested and personally toured us through each desitnation we visited. She is extremely knowledgeable about wine, food, and the history of art, architecture, religion, military conflicts, and more for both the region and all of Italy. She also arranged hotel and tours for us in Venice, and we could not have been happier with the choices. Her travel agency can also book travel in other parts of Italy. If you want the perfect Italian vacation, contact Discover Friuli!!

We used Sonia for three half-day tours in Friuli and found her to be an excellent guide.
We use a lot of tour guides in different locations around Italy (we operate small group tours of Italy from Australia and like using local guides to give our groups an expert, local insight in some locations) and based on our experience can really recommend Sonia!

Her knowledge of the region and all aspects of the culture in very thorough, her English is excellent and most importantly she delivers the information in a way that makes it highly engaging for the group.

As others have noted, Sonia Cos is an excellent guide: warm, relaxed, knowledgable. She was born and raised in the area and knows the history. She does not shy away from the history of carnage in WWI or the extermination of the Jews of Trieste.
We booked a two day wine tour but actually got a history tour as well.
The wineries routinely serve cheese, bread, and prosciutto along with at least five different wines.
      We had a wonderful time.

I contacted Sonia Cos of Discover Friuli to see if she could put together a one week tour for us of Friuli and surrounding areas. We are a group of eight Canadian book club members who love to travel to Italy every year. Sonia put together a wonderfully varied itinerary for us ranging from prosciutto tasting to grape picking, to wine tasting, to cooking lessons on the gastronomic side coupled with visits to ancient Roman sites and other significant historical locations. We also devoted two days for side trips to Slovenia and the Istrian peninsula.
Sonia put together a very well planned trip - we first stayed in Udine and then transferred to Trieste. This made it possible to minimize the amount of driving each day.
We can't say enough about Sonia's professionalism and extraordinarily informed knowledge of the local area and its history. In addition, she is also a very lovely warm person who speaks perfect English! Sonia is the perfect guide to this under appreciated part of la Bella Italia and we would highly recommend her.

My wife was researching the locations around Cividale del Fruili where her father was interned as an Australian prisoner of war during WW2. Sonia was our tour guide for an afternoon and was just outstanding. She located the areas of the prison camp and arranged for us to meet with the guardians of the then prison chapel. She was an excellent translator, helping us to communicate with the local guardians. For the rest of the afternoon Sonia gave us a wonderful tour of the city and local area.

Sonia was generous in her time and very knowledgeable of the local area and its history. We would highly recommend her services as a tour guide to compliment your holiday in the area, she is just wonderful.

My three daughters, and I were clients of Sonia Coz' Discover Friuli tours for 3 days in October of 2011.
One day was spent in the Carso winemaking area near Trieste; one day traveling in Slovenia; and a third day touring the Isirian Coast of Croatia.
Sonia, and her Slovenian, and Croatian guides made all three experiences memorable, and their insights, and explanations made the places we visited come alive !
Sonia is organized, friendly, open to endless questions, and her command of English is outstanding !!
We wholeheartedly recommend Discover Friuli, and Sonia Coz to anyone who desires to see, and understand this fascinating part of North Eastern Italy/Slovenia/Croatia, where the West meets The East !!!
