Bologna Food Walking Tour

Select Date and Travellers
2 travellers
This 3.5-hour walking food tour offers five mouth-watering tastings. While exploring wide and narrow alleys in the maze of the Bologna Medieval Market, you will literally taste Bologna’s essence, touring five hidden food gems that we have carefully selected to give you an authentic local experience. The tour is led by an expert local host, that will unveil ancient secrets and stories that will give insights of Bologna’s traditions and culture.

In order to let you taste Bologna like a local, we will take you to:
- A fresh pasta workshop, where you will have the chance to see veteran pasta artisans at work!
- Bologna’s most ancient deli store, where you will taste a special selection of cured meats and cheeses
- A pasta shop to sit down and have a dish of fresh, hand-made pasta: tagliatelle al ragù, tortellini or tortelloni at your choice!
- A traditional gelato shop
- The oldest bakery in town, to taste their delightful “torta di riso” (rice cake)

Simply the best!
  • Get an insider’s insight into local food and culture
  • Focus on savoring food and sights as the navigation is taken care of
  • Take home a cookbook with traditional recipes and a Bologna map
  • Enjoy personalized experience with a 15-person max small-group tour
  • If booking the trip from Florence, train tickets are included
What to Expect
Your tour begins in Neptune Fountain in Piazza Maggiore. After you’ve arrived, take a stroll around the piazza while a guide tells you about local history, art, and architecture. See Basilica di San Petronio, Archiginnasio Palace, the old University of Bologna, Two Towers, a medieval food market, and other city highlights. Stop at the oldest bakery in Bologna to sample a torta di riso (rice cake). Then, continue to the city’s ancient chocolate factory, where the first sfoglia nera was created, and sample its chocolate specialties. Afterward, get a taste of cured meats and cheeses with local breads and wine at a deli. There are two more stops on the sampling feast: a pasta laboratory for homemade egg pasta and a gelato shop. Receive a cookbook with a selection of traditional recipes, and get ready for an afternoon nap.
