Early Entry Vatican Museums: The Best of the Sistine Chapel
Stay a step ahead of the crowds with this early access tour of the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. With skip-the-line entry before the doors open to the public and access to reserved corridors, the tour has all you need to beat the Vatican crowds at two of its most sacred sites. There are even less people on the tour itself, with numbers capped at just 12 per group.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and group near the Ottaviano metro station in Rome, and head straight to the Sistine Chapel. Entering before the chapel officially opens its doors, you’ll see the sacred place as it was meant to be seen: in a state of tranquility, before the general public enter.

After admiring Michelangelo’s lauded frescoes that cover the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling and back wall, you’ll follow your guide along a reserved-access corridor that links the chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica.

Here, you’ll go straight to the basilica’s highlights, hearing the history behind Bernini’s bronze baldachin and Michelangelo’s La Pietà, which was carved from a single slab of Carrara marble. When you tour ends, you can stay inside St. Peter’s Basilica to explore more at your own pace.

Necessary guide to tour the Vatican

Boy oh boy am I sure glad I did not try to go to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel on my own! The whole process to get in was mind blowing... crowds around the block and zigzagging back-and-forth lines like at Disney World. Even though...More

Our guide was great. Very knowledgeable and kept the tour going at a good pace. He knew how to navigate the crowds during high tourist season. Early entry is much better than general entry but it will still be crowded - so don't expect to...More

Excellent guide - ridiculous process

Our tour guide from Walks of Italy, Donatta, deserves a full five stars. She was exceptionally informative, enthusiastic, and just a general pleasure to be around- quite a compliment as you’ll spend at least three hours with her! My one-star deduction is for the overall...More

4 hours and it flew by. Wear really comfortable shoes and bring two water bottles. Lots of very clean bathrooms, but you will need water with all the walking and stairs.

These are skip the line. There are other tours waiting also. You are with the guide when you enter the museum.

Yes. We saw the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basillica with the tour. We could have gone back to any of the places when the tour was done, but we didn’t feel the need because the tour was so thorough.
