Complete St Peters Basilica Tour with Dome Climb and Crypt

St. Peter’s Basilica is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s largest and most famous churches. On this small-group tour of the landmark, you’ll beat the crowds and enjoy guaranteed admission to its lofty dome, as well as the papal crypt—a side of the basilica that most visitors miss. Learn about the history of this icon, and see the Renaissance–era masterpieces hidden inside its walls.

What to Expect

Meet your guide at a convenient location just outside of St. Peter’s Square. In order to beat the crowds, and make the most of this world-famous landmark before long lines form, the tour kicks off in the early morning. See the Swiss Guard in St. Peter’s Square before entering the basilica. With just a small group for company, you’re promised an intimate way of discovering the church.

Your first stop is the basilica’s soaring dome, to which you have guaranteed admission. Board an elevator to its first viewing platform before walking up several hundred stairs to its summit, which offers panoramic views overlooking the city.

Next, you’ll return to ground level and will discover some of the artistic masterpieces hidden within the church, including Bernini’s bronze altar and Michelangelo’s Pietà. Learn more of the stories and history behind St. Peter's Basilica from your guide.

Your final stop is the papal crypt—a part of the landmark most visitors don’t see. Descend into its silent depths and discover some of its most significant tombs before the tour concludes.

St. Peter's Basilica Top to Bottom

The tour of Saint Peter's Basilica that included the dome climb, ground floor and the crypt level was outstanding. Our guide, Felix provided a great amount of information and kept the group moving along. The time flew by. Highly recommended.
