- Y3526HVjimm0 contributionsOutstanding experience! This pasta making class was the best money spent during our entire trip! We did the lunch time class, with about a dozen or so others. The facility was clean and bright, and our two chef teachers were engaging, helpful and knowledgeable. we prepared a 'bacon' (ie pork cheek) base, and a vegetarian tomato base, and made fettucine and ricotta/spinach ravioli. Prosecco lubricated the cooking process, and red wine accompanied the end-product meal, which was excellent. I learned lots, and I am planning to apply that learning today by making fettucine today at home. Don't even debate it - just sign up and love the class!Written 14 March 2024

Thank you .Written 12 March 2024

- NatLynch_120 contributionsDefinitely worth doing on your trip to Rome!!Having booked this experience and being nervous about what to expect we were not disappointed at all! We have just completed our pasta making class last night and absolutely loved it. Our hosts Chiara and Fernanda were so friendly and knowledgeable and talked us through all the relevant steps needed, and kept on topping our Prosecco up as we went along. The class ended with us being able to try everything we had made and it was delicious!! Proper homemade Italian food which we were so excited to try. Like so many others have posted here, I have not received a refund from our cancelled tour. I had been hoping to resolve this without posting a negative review, but after more than three months of trying to get a refund, I don't feel I have much choice left.
We initially booked our tour in February, for a tour that was to occur on April 1. We paid $615.40.
When it became clear we had to cancel our vacation, I contacted Walks to cancel our tour. That was on March 4. They initially offered a voucher, but I responded that we would prefer to have the refund, as we did not know when we would be able to travel to Europe. I was told that our refund would be processed within 2-4 weeks.
I contacted Walks again on April 29, since I had not yet received the refund. In the meantime, I had received emails from them about various online "tours." I had the idea that maybe we could take a few of these tours and it would reduce the refund that we were owed by Walks. Walks responded that they could not accept credits to be used towards their online tours. They further responded that my case had been escalated to the management team, and that I should look forward to a response within 21 business days.
After receiving no further communication, I emailed Walks again on June 8. I used the email address that they have referred to in their responses to other negative reviews on this site (info@takewalks.com). On June 14, I received a form response that they have received my request and will be in touch soon.
I have really tried to be patient, and give Walks the benefit of the doubt that they are doing their best to meet their obligations. I would have been happy to take some of our refund in credits toward their online tours, but they would not allow that. But their response has been so disappointing.
I know a representative of the company has been reading these reviews and responding, asking people to email the company directly. Unfortunately, I tried to do that, multiple times, before writing this review and still have no resolution about the refund I requested more than 3 months ago. Very disappointing.

The way Walks of Italy has handled cancellations has been very disappointing. It has now been 12 weeks since our initial request.
We paid 900 EUROS for three tours for our family of four, on what was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime. Walks made an initial offer of an extra 50% value on a credit. When this was politely declined, it became an offer of an extra 100% value on a credit, in what seemed like a very unprofessional letter from the CEO of Walks worldwide. In comparison, 'Walkabout Florence' had deposited a refund on my card 24 hours after the request was made. I am sure they are finding this situation equally difficult. Where did my 900 EUROS go?

Very angry to spend a whole day on the bus. Of the 13 hours we toured 9 were spent on the bus, in what world would anyone choose to do that and waste a day of their holiday in cramped worse-than-coach-class quality seats?! I feel like the agency was not forthcoming with the information they provided. Paolo in Pompeii was an absolute gem as was Marcia on our bus who kept us entertained and informed, what a pity the tour is badly planned. I was looking to booking another experience with them but definitely not after today.

Hello mariemC2828UW,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, we very much appreciate your feedback!
We are sorry to hear that our Pompeii with Amalfi Coast Drive tour did not meet your expectations, that is very disappointing to us, as we want nothing more than for our guests to have a wonderful time.
This tour aims to bring guests who are based in Rome to the ancient ruins of Pompeii, with a scenic drive along the Amalfi coast and free time in a picturesque town. There is a lot of driving involved in this trip, as there are considerable distances to cover and the roads in this region are quite winding. We do our utmost to ensure that our drivers use new Mercedes minibuses, which are both comfortable and suitable for the narrow Amalfi coast roads. If this was not the case on the day of your tour, we would love to follow up on this. Please feel free to contact us anytime at info@takewalks.com with your booking details, so that we can investigate this further for you.
We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our guides' company, however, and hope that you will consider us in the future. We have many more tours that we think would be much more to your liking and would suit your needs better.
Warmest regards,
The Walks Team

It was lovely to see Positano and Pompeii. But if you are looking for a way to see Pompeii, skip Positano and just take the high speed train and hire a guide for Pompeii.
This tour is pretty miserable, given that they use a bus that is more appropriate for Polly Pocket, than actual humans. If you are a human of any size or height, you will be very uncomfortable for the 7+ hours you will be jammed into it. As well, the seatbelt did not work for my seat.
You are given two hours in Positano. Not really enough to have a proper lunch AND a swim. You will have to choose. Whatever you do, don't miss the lemon sorbet!!
The guide in Pompeii is good. As others have mentioned, it's a pretty short tour. If you are interested in Pompeii, again, you are better off taking the high speed train and hiring a private guide for the duration you prefer. It is HOT! It was a nice touch that they had cold bottles of water for us at the end of our tour.
Both ways, they will stop for a break at a horrid tourist trap of a place. The driver is required by law to take a break, which is fine, but they have chosen a terrible spot. You are dropped off on one side, and picked up on the other, and are forced too walk through their tacky-tacky "gift shop" in order to get to your MICRO bus.
Go elsewhere. This is a disappointment for a Walks tour.

We had a GREAT day with a very attentive and fun tour guide. The transportation was comfortable and the tour guide provided us with great information, plus time to just relax and enjoy the scenery. In Pompeii, we were guided through the ancient city by an archeologist who offered great insights into the fascinating place. The van driver managed the narrow, winding road along the Amalfi coast with care and dropped us off in Positano where we enjoyed a meal and sone shopping in possibly the most gorgeous town anywhere. We appreciated the attention to detail and the consideration given to us by a very thoughtful and caring tour guide.

This was the perfect day trip from Rome for our family of 4. Our guide Andrea was incredible. He was very personable, funny, and yet managed to impart so much information! He took very good care of us. The drive to Positano was amazing, and a special shout out to Bruno our driver (if you tip, you'll want to include the driver. You'll understand what I mean if you go.) The weather in late October was unseasonably warm, and people were still swimming and on the beaches. Positano is a resort town, and you spend 2 hours there before heading to the highlight of the trip--Pompeii. It is an absolutely incredible place, and the archeological preservation allows you to walk through the streets of the ancient town. It is an opportunity unlike any other. And if you are lucky enough to have Ilaria as your guide, you will get insights from an archeologist who actually worked on the site. The entire day is a thoroughly enjoyable that I highly recommend.

We knew when we booked this that the tour involved a lot of driving time and would probably have limited time at the destinations of Positano and Pompeii, but we so waned to visit them both that we booked it anyway.
My wife and I had been to Positano 15 years ago in 2007 and absolutely loved it, and wanted to introduce our 12 year old daughter to the beauty of the area. Back in 2007 we also intended to visit Pompeii but could not manage it, so this is something we've been waiting 15 years to see.
While it was indeed a very long drive, it was broken up by brief stops along the way at rest stops for breakfast, scenic overlooks, etc. Our guide was good, sharing stories along the way, but also leaving us time to just relax on the ride. She also provided recommendations on how to best spend our time in Positano. We arrived in Positano just before lunchtime and were given about 2 hours to spend in town. We started with lunch on a patio restaurant overlooking the beach. We really enjoyed our meal. This left us with just under an hour to explore and shop before heading back to the bus meeting spot.
Then on to Pompeii where we met with a different local guide to lead us around the ruins. Roberto is an active archeologist working one of the excavation of one of the structures on the site. He started us in a new museum with pieces recovered and restored from the ruins, including plaster molds of people and animals trapped in the lava/ash and preserved for centuries. He then led us through sections of the ruins, but of course we only got a small taste of all the site had to offer because we needed to board our bus back to Rome.
We really had just enough time to learn that we needed to come back and spend more time in the area so we could visit both sites on our own and spend as much time as needed to really experience them.
And that's fine, because we knew going in that this was just a "whet your whistle" kind of tour, which is exactly what it did.

Absolutely a terrible idea to combine a trip to Pompeii and Positano in one day from Rome. You leave at 7am and arrive back at 8pm, or 13 hours. Of those 13 hours, all but 4 are spent on a bus that essentially leaves you with 2 hours at Pompeii and 2 hours at Positano.
Our experience at Pompeii was extremely negative - it was far too crowded with too many tour groups. It would have been far better if Pompeii was scheduled for the afternoon when there are fewer crowds and tour groups. While this is not the tour operator's fault it left us with a bad impression. Regarding Positano, the description of the tour states shop, have lunch, lay on the beach when in fact you hardly have the time to even do just one of these activities. They park the bus a 20-30 minute walk from the beach and food that at best you have 1 hour to have lunch. Given the number of people searching for a lunch spot you simply don't have the time to enjoy lunch and Positano.
In short the trip was a waste of time, source of frustration and totally not worth the high price they exact for this meaningless experience.

Dear jankN25,
Thanks for taking the time to write us a review.
We are sorry if this tour did not meet your expectations.
Day Trip tours are designed especially for people with limited time but that still want to see the majority of interesting sites.
For example, if you are staying in Rome, for only one or two days but still want to go and see Pompeii and Amalfi, then a day trip tour is for you.
Our team carefully prepares the itinerary to make sure all the main highlights of these places are seen and to allow our guests to enjoy their free time there as well.
Regarding the crowds in Pompeii, we cannot do anything about that. But our guides always try to go through the best path to avoid the crowds and make the experience enjoyable.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
If there is anything else you would like to discuss with us, please contact us at feedback@walks.org. We will be happy to assist you.
Kind regards,

While time in Pompeii was short, the local veteran archealogist guide more than made up for it with her vast knowledge of the place which she translated into interesting, bite-sized stories / nuggets of information. This helped to bring history to life and to make the ruins relevant to the modern day traveler.
Positano-wise, if you don't fancy beaches and related activities, shopping and / or eating at nice restaurants, opt for the tour with Mt Vesuvius intead. Otherwise, it's hard to while away 2 hours or so at Positano. Admiring the costal views can be done with a quick pit stop along the way. Unfortunately, there's no Pompeii-only tour.
Special credit however must go to the coach driver who expertly navigated the treacherous roads thus keeping us all right on schedule.

This tour was a fantastic experience, one that I will never forget.
Pompei exceeded what I expected, you could honestly spend hours there just wandering the ancient ruins of a once dominant city. However the tour guide was sure to have the blueprint to see everything Pompei has to offer in the period of time you are there.
The Amalfi coast is something special. I had always wanted to see the Amalfi coast, only seeing it on social media or postcards. I was absolutely blown away with what the coast had to offer. You could sit there all day.
The hosts were extremely accomodating and even went as far as booking the best restaurant for lunch in Sorrento for the group.
Id you’re staying in Rome and have a day, take this tour, you’ll come back with no regrets.

Hello, I have a question regarding the minibus taken to the Pompeii/Amalfi coast tour because of the reviews indicating the minibus being broken on the highway. Are reliable vehicles, could you explain approximately how old are the minibuses? Thanks,

The bus we travelled on was quite new. It was a twenty seater so spare seats as it was a tour for max 18 people. There is now a direct train from Rome to Pompeii, begins in July with tour packages available.

Yes, I believe so. We had over 2 hours in Positano to do whatever you wish.

Hi, where did people recently (Aug 22) meet this tour to start? The pick up point we’ve been given is a cafe which seems to be in a completely different location to the address provided?
