Overview
Save precious vacation time by seeing just the highlights of the Vatican Museums, including the rarely seen ‘Vatacombs,’ on this skip-the-line tour in Rome. With your art historian guide, bypass the sometimes 4-hour wait times to admire the museum’s main treasures and Sistine Chapel, get priority access to St. Peter’s Basilica, and visit underground papal tombs. Choose the early-bird option in summer for an even less-crowded experience.
What to Expect
Greet your guide in central Rome at your selected start time and skip the lines to the Vatican Museums. Your priority-access admission ticket means you can skip the long lines, saving you invaluable time.

Then, follow your guide to the key pieces of the art collections, heading to the must-sees of the Raphael Rooms and the Roman and Greek sculptures of the Belvedere Courtyard. After viewing and learning about the artworks, enter the Sistine Chapel to admire Michelangelo’s frescoes. Then, avoid the lines at St. Peter's Basilica, saving additional time.

Tour the world’s biggest basilica, believed to stand on St. Peter’s tomb, and observe highlights including Michelangelo's Pieta and Bernini’s altar canopy (baldacchino).

Outside, admire St. Peter’s Square as you hear about the Vatican’s history, and explore the rarely seen underground ‘Vatacombs,’ home to former popes’ tombs, before your tour concludes in the square.

A must do with Chiara!

This tour was fantastic. Easy to find the meeting place. Chiara was fun and VERY knowledgeable. She loves what she does and it showed. The small group made it relatively easy to stay together with her direction. Her wealth of knowledge was impressive.

Fantastic Tour with Chiara--Best Guide Ever!

This tour would have been amazing simply because of the subject matter alone, but Chiara made it 100 times better! She knew her subject, was efficient, kept us organized without making us feel like we were being herded around--and honestly is one of the funniest,...More

The tour ends there and you can stick around. Once you leave that area though you can’t go back.

It's a 3+ hour tour, so depending on your children's attention span and interest will determine if your children will be able to handle the tour.

No it is not. You should inquire about Scavi tours at least 2-3 months in advance. I requested about 6 weeks before our time in Rome and it was already full.
