- lillr20190 contributionsA Great Experience! It was a long day but totally worth it not just because of where we were going but also because of our tour guide Angelina Militello and the coach driver. With an early morning start, the City Wonders coordinator was there to organize everyone into groups depending on the tour they were taking. Once in the bus, a 2 hour drive to Pompeii with a bathroom/coffee stop on the way. Angelina was very knowledgeable, communicative, entertaining, enthusiastic, we could not have asked for a better guide . Even though it was a tour for English speakers, her knowledge of several languages including Spanish helped some of the participants in better understanding what she was explaining. Once we arrived in Poompeii, Angelina handed our group over to Mauro, the Pompeii expert, for this part of the tour. He too was great, very knowledgeable, engaging and funny at times. This part lasted 1 1/2 hrs. From here our tour continued southbound towards the Amalfi coast with its breath taking views with a stop at a Limoncello manufacturer for a tasting and then on to the beautiful town of Positano for our late lunch. All the while Angelina was explaining the history and telling us stories of the area. Our return to Rome took longer, around 4 hrs as a result of having gone further south to visit the Amalfi coast and town. I highly recommend this tour, my family and I were amazed, delighted with the sites, the history and the cultural aspect of this journey. Yes it's a long tour but as long as you are mentally prepared, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, bring along a bottle of water (although there are plenty of opportunities to buy bottles along the way) you will not regret it! Thank you Angelina and coach driver for a memorable day!Written 18 March 2024

- 34frog0 contributionsExcellent tour and excellent guideThe tour was wonderful. It departed on time and all the information was conveyed through individual headsets which really helps in a busy place such as the Colosseum. Our guide Nico was absolutely fantastic. He was calm and made sure everyone could remain with the group. He was very knowledgeable and the information was well timed and the delivery well paced. He brought the places we visited to life and his knowledge was very impressive. Thank you NicoWritten 18 March 2024

- HeatherCJordan0 contributionsGreat day!We booked a day trip to Pompeii as part of our stay in Rome. We met the guides in Piazza Del Popolo on the morning of the trip and was allocated to Laura’s group. Laura was so friendly, knowledgeable and good humoured and kept us all entertained during the drive to Pompeii. We made a short stop along the way to use toilets and grab a drink/ snack. We were split into 2 groups and allocated a new guide for Pompeii itself- our guide being Giancarla. The 2 hour walk around the city was so interesting and definitely sped past. Of course you cannot see everything in that time but having a guide to explain what you were seeing was invaluable. A great experience. Laura arranged a takeaway pizza lunch for those of us who were interested (€15 each) from a local restaurant which we ate back on the coach on our way to Positano. Laura continued to explain what we were seeing along the drive but also gave us time to rest as the round trip is a long day- approximately 13 hours. Our driver for the day was Giovanni who was great, especially on the winding coastal roads leading to Positano. The coach can only get so far before you have to switch onto a smaller mini van for the final descent down to Positano and ascent back up afterwards (all arranged by City Wonders). We had about 1.5 hours in Positano to look around ourselves before we needed to be back on the coach for the drive back. It was a long but thoroughly enjoyable day, seeing much more of the country than we would have otherwise and learning so much along the way. Would definitely recommend this tour to others.Written 17 March 2024

This tour was a great day trip outside of Rome. Chiara and Andrea were extremely friendly and the transportation to and from Pompeii/Mt. Vesuvius was air conditioned and comfortable. If you are thinking about doing this tour there a few things to note:
-As some other reviews have said there is no guided tour for Pompeii but there is also no time to buy an audio guide at the museum entrance of Pompeii so if you want to have some history other than the signs make sure to download an app or something similar.
-They did provide a map on our tour which helped us see the sites in Pompeii that we wanted but Pompeii is very large and you will only be there for 2 hours (3 if you choose to skip lunch or have it separately from the group). I woul recommend doing some basic research on the sites you absolutely want to see so you can plan accordingly.
- Do NOT underestimate the hike on Mt. Vesuvius! Our tour was in July so it was 35C and had we not come prepared with hiking shoes and a full camelback of water it would have been much more difficult. Best thing to do is pace yourself and also watch out for bees/wasps as both my wife and I were stung on the hike up the volcano.
This trip was fantastic because we read other reviews and came prepared. If you want a more involved guided tour I would recommend booking a different tour. My wife enjoyed our day because we were able to go at our own pace and decide for ourselves what we wanted to do/see.

This was a great experience which I would really recommend to everyone who is interested in Roman history. Our guide Angela is a very well educated person. She was very entertaining, told a lot about Roman history, culture and myths in perfect American English.
Our driver Antonio was great too.
(For the future trips I would recommend the organisers to plan more time at the stops on the way from Rome to Pompeii).

Honestly, when this trip first started I was going to rate a one star but the guide eventually grew on me. Keep in mind that I think this trip was a bargain cost wise so it's a budget trip. First the guide showed at exactly 7:30 meeting time. He was not wearing a blue vest or a blue shirt with company insignia as was promised. He said he was in a car accident because he was rushing. IDK I was at the piazza by 6:45 and didn't have to rush. He muttered something to several people around him and everyone got in line. I didn't know at this point if this was for the Pompeii excursion because nothing was said to us collectively. I had to ask him before getting checked in. We walked 5 minutes to get to a medium sized bus ( it was later explained that the size of the bus is related to Mount Vesuvius narrow roads). We were told to social distance by leaving a seat open if we were not traveling together. Well the bus had 35 seats and it was overbooked. A couple decided to leave immediately, requesting a refund. The guide, Andrea, blocked of the first row for himself, and used the third single seat across from the driver to occasionally sit during the trip. The seats were narrow and uncomfortable for the three hour drive as we were all crammed together. On the bathroom break stop I asked Andrea if i could use one of the three seats he was using. He said no. I asked him is him having his bag on one seat and a choice of two other seats trump the need to social distance during covid. His reply was basically that he had asked the company for bigger buses but then again they can't use the because of the Vesuvius roads. Yes, but they didn't have to overbook. I readjusted my expectations and over time Andrea grew on me with his friendly attitude and his active participation in telling us about history and points of interest.
So, adjust your expectations that the value of this trip makes it a budget trip and you will walk away content. The sites were beautiful and we'll worth the visit.

Our family had an excellent time during our tour to Pompeii and Naples in December 2019. Our City Wonders tour guide, Giulietta, was fantastic. She was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We actually ran into her on the metro after the tour and she talked with us and hung around with us even after the tour was over. We learned so much about Pompeii, had a delightful lunch at a really nice restaurant (included in the tour), and we loved the rest stop halfway along the drive where we got coffee and were able to do a bit of shopping. This was our second trip to Italy and we have gone through City Wonders for our tours both times and would definitely recommend them and use them again on our third trip to Italy.

We really enjoyed our trip to Pompeii/Vesuvius. Our guide Sonia, and driver Antonio were both fantastic! We started the day bright and early at 7:15am and had an air-conditioned bus ride to Naples. We stopped halfway to get treats and a bathroom break and arrived in Pompeii around 10:30am. The tour was 2 hours and afterwards our guide set up lunch at a little restaurant (15 euros per person for either pasta or pizza and a drink). We took a very winding road to Vesuvius (Antonio was a pro!) and climbed about 20 mins to the top. Very hot and definitely recommend water. Overall it was a long day, we arrived back at the location around 7:45pm. We had a lot of fun on the tour and would definitely recommend Sonia and Antonio again!

Easy to find meeting location and Luca was our guide. The journey down to pompeii was around 1.5 hours before we stopped for a freshen up break, then continued approximately the same time again until we reached pompeii. We were introduced to our local expert who took us through the ruins and we had headsets to ensure we could hear. Really interesting to be in a place I learnt about in school. The weather was a little indecisive but a poncho was sufficient. Lunch was arranged at a local restaurant which we could preorder and although was good value at £15 euros for a main, drink and dessert(cake) wasn't actually great. The pasta wasn't fresh although the tomato sauce could have been, the cake was really wet and soggy. Not sure what other options were as had no time to look, nor time to look around the market or go to gift shops in pompeii. Back on the coach to Mount vesuvius, we were lucky as the weather was unpredictable that we were allowed to go up the mountain. The driver was very skilled! There were 3 gift shops on your way up the mountain, personally the bottom one was the best of three very poor options (only toilet was here) , given location and the number of tourists I honestly would have expected better, disappointing but I didn't go there for the gifts, surprised the Italian authorities haven't created a proper visitor centre which would be much nicer and generate income. The walk up to the crater is a bit of a slog but I felt it was worth it.. Even though we couldn't see into the crater (clouds) you could smell the sulphur. A stop half way back to our original pick up location and then Luca and our driver (so sorry forgotten his name!) helped us get taxis back to hotel :)

The trip was wonderful. Our guide Angela was full of very good information and was really passionate about what she did which really shown. Pompeii is self guided so you get to see what you want to see, but Angela gave us tips about where to go. For lunch Angela had a deal with a local restaurant so we got a drink pizza and salad for just 10 euros. This is optional, but too good to miss in my opinion. Due to poo weather the mountain was shut so we were treated to go around the side of a mountain and hear from a very knowledgeable volcanologist called roberto. We didn’t get back to Rome until 830 but it was an incredible day. Also shout out to romelio the driver who navigated some tough roads.

If You are a lazy planner like me, then this day trip is just perfect for quick visit to Pompeii and Vesuvius. Our guide, Chiara was just wonderful. She really makes You feel like You are back in school with Your favourite history teacher.
Climb to Vesuvius is not just a random hike. Proper shoes are recommended (like sneakers), flipflops will not get You far, be prepared for a lot of dust. For us the sun was looming over our heads the whole time (July), be prepared to be a sweaty piglet by the time You reach to the end if You decide to take it as a personal challenge to do it faster than what the guide says is regular. In addition, the top gives You nice views over Naples.
Even though we did not have the guide inside the Pompeii we were handed out maps in the bus and were told stories of Pompeii. I personally loved the possibility to check out stuff privately as then You can focus on things that interest You and move at Your own pace, even if it is chaotic running between all the amazing buildings to get a glimpse of it all. Chiara also answered later all our most random questions that rose during the visitation. Added bonus – heard a lot about current life in Italy too and always appreciated food recommendations from a local. For Pompeii I would recommend lots of strong sunscreen, unless You love having red lobster burns shaped like Your backpack on Your body, also You can fill water bottles inside Pompeii and the water is good to drink.
Overall, very awesome experience!

Meeting at Piazza Del Popolo, the tour was very well run considering its a long day and covers quite a distance. The 3 hour journey to Naples is broken by a toilet/ breakfast stop after 90 mins. Emiliano our guide, talked for part of the journey, giving information on the tour and of locations we passed.
The tour of Pompeii was done by a local tour guide and only covers a small area of the vast site. Visiting during the end of September it was still quite busy, especially around the Lupinarium. The tour lasted approx 2 hours after which you can have lunch at the restaurant by the coach park before heading up to Vesuvius (weather dependant). The tour guide advised on the journey you can book lunch for 15 euros which includes pizza, a drink (and dessert?) We brought our own lunch so didn’t take up this offer. There isn’t much else around Pompeii other than restaurants and souvenirs shops.
Vesuvius is about a 30 minute drive from Pompeii and we had around 90 minutes to reach the summit before meeting back at the bus to leave. Sadly the day we went was raining, so we could only imagine the views.
Returning to Rome you stop again at the same stop before arriving around 8pm.
Emiliano was a great guide with his vast knowledge and humour.
It would have been nice to have the option to stay in Pompeii if not having lunch to further explore. Once the tour finished you leave and give the radios back. We would have liked to see the Amphitheatre on the far side of the site as this wasn’t covered in the tour.

Need to be clear in description you will barely be in Pompeii for an hour and the tour is rushed you see very little. The coach journey takes nearly 4 hours with a detour to a toilet stop, you then go to the coast village which was beautiful but we were there longer to allow for people to pay for an additional boat trip and go to a seafood restaurant on the beach which took time away from Pompeii trip. The hosts Angela and Carla were lovely, knowledgeable and great to listen to just really disappointed that we did the trip as couldn’t get a trip just to Pompeii on its own so my dad could do his bucket list for his 80th birthday and we didn’t see the key areas in Pompeii as so rushed

Not sure. I travelled Easter weekend and 2022 which is obviously a busy date in the Roman Catholic Church and I had no problem booking about two weeks before.
Hello,
We will be traveling in late November therefore the Vesuvius trip will be replaced by Naples. What is the itinerary in Naples?

I’m sorry. I do not know the answer to this question. I would contact the tour company with any questions.

Please advise the extra fee for the Amalfi coast replacement of Mt. Vesuvius. Further, what is the fee for children, 11 and 13? Is there a discount for seniors?

I don’t think so through this particular tour, but I would call the tour company. If you have time I would rent a car and travel the area it is absolutely beautiful and there are plenty of places to stay.

Is it possible to leave us in amalfi at the end of the tour? Cuz we are heading that way instead of us booking a tour in amalfi?

Hello,
I have my vaccination card from the CDC (white card) with no booster. Do I still need a negative Covid test?
