What to expect
Meet your guide at a central location in Madrid. Stroll to a traditional tavern and sample the city’s characteristic aperitif, “vermut de grifo,” along with olives and a fish tapa. Next, head to a ham bar for an authentic taste of “jamón ibérico de bellota,” as well as lomo, chorizo, and salchichon. Pair with a glass of Spanish white wine and savor their complementary flavors. Next, try a typical Spanish omelet, coupled with a glass of Manzanilla fino sherry. Stroll further into Old Madrid, admiring its cobblestone paths and then arrive at your next destination, ready to indulge in “Presa Iberica,” regarded the best cut of Iberian pork. We learned about Andreas' food tour through friends that attended it in 2017 and highly recommend it to us. We're thankful because the tour was perfect. Andreas is not only knowledgeable about the food in Madrid but the history of the city itself and is happy to entertain all sorts of questions with equal curiosity and a fondness for practicing his already perfect English. Our group took fairly short but refreshing walks to a handful of establishments that Andreas felt showcased key elements of Spanish cuisine in the best way possible: Cod, vermouth, Iberico ham, "secreto" pork, and an assortment of wines leading to a crescendo of unforgettable dessert wines in increasing rarity and deliciousness. We were so impressed that we made a point to return to two of the establishments for a second and full helping of what we had already tasted. I would happily do the tour again because everything was so outstanding and Andreas was genuinely invested in the experience and a pleasure to dine with.

Andrés was a terrific guide; we so enjoyed his commentary (perfect English) that included some history of Madrid, it’s typical customs and foods; paired with a wide selection of lovely wines….all done in a
Great neighborhood a bit off of the “tourist area.” This was truly a special experience provided by a local who is an expert on all things related to Madrid. There was a LOT of food; we were quite full by the end of the tour. Highly recommended!!

Thank you David!!! Yes! we had a good night! I am still thinking about that Viña Ardanza 2015. I need to taste it again but this time I am going to decant it and see whether the tangerine notes show up ealier. I was a little bit disenchanted with the winery. Their Viña Arana Gran Reserva 2014 was not as good as the impressive 2012 vintage. But after tasting the Ardanza 2015 I am again a fan. I also have to taste Victoria nº2 . As I told you this is one of my favorite wines in Spain. Very steady, all vintages were outstanding till the 2017 vintage which was a big dissapointment. But 2018 is already in the market and I am almost sure the wine is back to what it was, the best moscatel in the the country. Thanks again.

I highly recommend this tour, and I suggest taking it early in your stay. You'll want to go back to each place and try more of the menu! We went to three different restaurants and had four wines and tapas. Everything was so delicious! Andres also provided historical information and showed interesting parts of Madrid I would not have experienced otherwise.

After almost ten years we rebooked a tour with walksofspain.com. Andres Jarabo again led us to several very nice bars and restaurants where we sampled unique drinks, wines and food. We were very appreciative, as the libations were wonderful and we could easily walk from one location to the next. Andres has a great knowledge of wines and the local cuisines and we enjoyed the entire experience AGAIN. Highly recommended!

Andres was a fabulous guide. He took us to all of the smaller local bars and restaurants we would have never found on our own. The food is absolutely incredible and you should definitely start the your hungry because you get more than enough food. The drinks and wine were also perfectly paired. I can’t say enough great things about this and you will not regret it!

I cannot say enough good things about Andres and this tour. I took two tapas tours (Adventerous Appetites and Walks of Spain) because as a single traveller it is a safe, fun way to experience Madrid nightlife in a convivial group setting.
I can recommend both tours highly. They are very different and the pricing is different. Check both tours to compare. In my opinion, Walks of Spain would be my #1 pick. It was the perfect combination of history, local customs, gourmet and different tapas and an introduction to some unique Spanish drinks including vermouth, sherry and FANTASTIC wines. Andres is very relaxed, making it a comfortable and tranquil 3 hours. He took us to atypical bodegas, restaurants and areas. At every stop, a table was waiting for us and the owners were waiting to welcome our group. Andres introduces us to vermout (vermouth) and gave a great background on it's history in Spain. We had the best jamon (free-range, acorn-only feed piggies); Manchego marinated in a different way than any others I have tasted; Sherry to die for when combined with the jamon y queso. The next stop was a polished, yet relaxed, gourmet small, award-winning restaurant. We had beautifully presented and delicious tapas in a sleek, modern atmosphere. We ended the evening at a very nice restaurant, sitting at a fantastic table inside but with open doors at our table in a private, quiet part of the restaurant. It was just the right amount of food to enable us to really taste and appreciate. The wine was amazing and Andres is so knowledgeable. I won't ruin the surprise at the end of dinner, but it involves Spanish dessert wine with a dollop of something wonderful. Euro to Euro, a great evening, amazing value and an introduction to the foodie side of Madrid. FYI...this tour would be enjoyed by older, well-behaved children who are used to dining in restaurants. Non-alcoholic drinks are plentiful. I would have taken my boys on it as they love good food and are experienced travellers (ages 9 and 11).

We have found gourmet walking tours a great way to learn about the history, culture and culinary traditions of a city/country. We enjoy small tours, lead by someone knowledgeable and who has a relationship with the owners. The description of this tour sounded like it would meet our requirements. In addition, the price of the tour included ALL the beverages and tastings. (With other tours, only the first drink and tapas is included. You pay for everything else.) THIS TOUR WAS EXCELLENT! Andres is very personable, knowledgeable of Madrid (and it's history), typical foods and wines and has a great relationship with the owners. The tastings are often and generous portions! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Madrid. Everything was as advertised! Thanks, Andres!

My family, two adult sons and husband, joined Andres for an evening stroll of Old Town Madrid tasting fabulous local tapas and wines. It was a really fun small group of people from Scotland, Wisconsin, and California. Andreas was a fountain of information. We highly recommend one of his tours.

My husband and I went on this tour with Andres on Aug,, 29, 2018. When booking, we thought is was mostly about the delicious Spanish food, but we happily found out it was equally (if not more so) about the vino! There were three other Yankee couples and a young single woman on our tour. Andres speaks excellent English and is so knowledgeable and passionate about Spain, and her traditions, foods, and wines. We had various wines... whites, reds, desserts, etc. all perfectly paired with delicious cheeses, olives, hams/sausages, Spanish tortillas, pork, and ice cream. Meeting new people, trying new foods/wines, and exploring a small part of La Latina... there's nothing better. We would definitely do this tour again when in Madrid!
