Lunch option

Visible from Barcelona, Montserrat makes for an obvious day trip—both for its religious significance and its culinary tradition. A cogwheel train handles the hairpin curves on the way up to the summit, and your guide makes sure you see the best of each site. Plus, this tour includes a visit to Montserrat Monastery and a 10th-century wine cellar with wine tastings and food pairings. A tapas-style or 3-course lunch is also provided for your convenience.
What to Expect
Make your way to the departure point in central Barcelona, and then head to the Catalonian village of Monistrol de Montserrat. Board a cogwheel train for a ride to Montserrat Monastery, taking in views of the countryside as you ascend to the towering summit.

Upon arrival, sample local food and drink such as coca de Montserrat (a sweet pastry) washed down with homemade liquors. Learn about the site’s religious history dating back to the Romans, and explore the grounds both with a guide and on your own.

Head back to the bus for a quick drive to a wine cellar located in a 10th-century castle. Opt for multi-course meal followed by a wine tasting and cheese platter, or choose to enjoy your wines paired with tapas (select upon booking). Both options include a tour of the cellar and three organic wines.

This Montserrat tour concludes in Barcelona.

Wonderful Tour

This tour was the highlight of our trip to Barcelona. Our guide, Alex, was friendly and knowledgeable. Montserrat is breathtaking and the wine tasting at a centuries-old castle/winery was a once in a lifetime experience.

I would try and call viator directly. Or try calling tripadvisor, I believe they are partner companies.

To be honest, I can't remember if the ride was 30 or 60 minutes (my husband remembers it as an hour, and that's probably what it is), but regardless, it was a wonderful ride and experience. The train is very comfortable... More

You tell the tour guide your food exceptions and they will accommodate. I believe a vegetarian on our tour got a substitute of lentils.
