After-Hours Tour: Opera Garnier in Paris

Select Date and Travellers
2 travellers
Like all sumptuous and famous places, the Palais Garnier has its mysteries, myths and incredible stories.

This is the angle from which we propose to approach this jewel of architecture. Your guide will narrate its history through the story of Erik, the mysterious man with a hideous face, more well-known under the name of the Phantom of the Opera. Having made the opera his home, the Phantom knows its entire history and can recount 1001 anecdotes and other curiosities.

The short story by Gaston Leroux will thus serve as a thread throughout the visit, leading you beyond the great chandelier, stall No. 5 and the angel of the music, to reveal unsuspected splendours.
  • Avoid the daytime crowds on this after-hours Opera Garnier tour in Paris
  • Visit after the main crowds to admire the interior in a quieter setting
  • Learn the building's connection to Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera
  • Entrance fees included for a great-value experience
What to Expect
Travel independently to the Opera Garnier, also known as the Palais Garnier, and meet your guide. Admire the splendid baroque exterior and enter just before the building closes to the public for your guided tour. As you explore, learn how this late 19th-century beaux arts masterpiece was home to the Paris Opera and now serves primarily as host to the Paris Opera ballet. Marvel at the grand staircase with its extravagant candelabras and statues inspired by Greek mythological figures. Hear how the building inspired Gaston Leroux to pen The Phantom of the Opera in 1910, and marvel at the chandelier-hung, richly ornamented halls. Enter the 2,000-seat auditorium to view its ornate balconies and swirling murals as your guide recounts famous performances staged here. Your tour concludes in the foyer.

The Opera Garnier is beautiful, but the logisitics are confusing. The after-hours tour allows you to avoid the crowds, but it starts after the guards lock the doors, so you need to arrive early and wait inside for Cultival to get around to checking you...More

VERY difficult to hear or understand the guide. Way too much focus on Phantom instead of the magnificent building architecture and history. Of the 4-5 tours we booked in Paris, this was the most disappointing. ☹️More

Dear Deborah, We are sorry for your visit but it is normal that the guide speaks a lot of the Phantom of the opera because it is the offer of this visit. If you wanted a general tour of the opera, you had to book...More

About one hour. It is fully worth it. There are fabulous cafes (no surprise there) right across the street from the Opera. Do the tour, take it in, bring your camera/smartphone, linger in the main areas - the staircases... More
