  • Family-friendly tour with a history angle
  • Stroll along the sea cliffs and visit W. B. Yeats’ boyhood home
What to Expect
Meet your group at Barnardo Square, after which you take a short train ride to Howth, a historic fishing village north of Dublin. In Howth, explore the village including its lighthouse, Martello Tower, and Howth Castle (home to a megalithic tomb). The tour continues with a walk along the sea cliff, where guillemots and seals are often spotted. After taking in the dramatic scenery, visit the boyhood home of Irish poet W. B. Yeats. This seaside village is known for its fresh seafood and traditional pubs. The tour includes round-trip train tickets, but you can remain in Howth to explore independently after the walking tour finishes.

It was such a joy joining your tour. Especially, in the rhododendron-wood among all the leprechauns (unfortunately yesterday they were hidden, maybe next time ;)) Although the city centre isn’t that far away (approx. 30 min. ride by train) it felt like wild nature. Our

While doing Dublin tour, we were marketed to buy other tours/tickets for better prices. We fell for that, bought whisky museum tickets (after we learned we saved only €1!), which we could not redeem as the museum was full during the WE (no warning was given ab that, they just

Hi Julia R, Thank you for sharing your experience with us and for joining the tour in Dublin. We love to hear back from engaged travellers such as yourself, as your feedback helps us to continue making improvements and ensure that tours and experiences promoted by SANDEMANs NEW Europe meet the high standards that travellers expect of us. We are sorry to hear that your expectations were not met on this occasion. Whilst the tour’s route, inclusions and content are listed on our website, the independent guides we work with may alter the tour in order to suit their own style and each group’s dynamic. We feel this adds a personal touch that makes tours promoted by SANDEMANs fresh and unforgettable, but it may also mean that the tour’s stories and sites are not in line with every guests’ preferences which, unfortunately, can be a difficult situation to avoid. While on the whole, the vast majority of guests are extremely satisfied, we do state on our promotional material that all the tours do differentiate from one another due to the individual nature of the guides we work with. However, for this activity in particular, we also state the following: - The tour covers approximately 6 miles of walking over a 3-5 hour period, occasionally off path and ascending/descending steep gradients. Please ensure that you are wearing suitable footwear (ie. no heels or flip flops) and that you have a suitable level of fitness for this type of activity. - Unfortunately this tour is not recommended for pushchairs, for those in wheelchairs or for those less able to walk unassisted. -The tour ends in Howth Village around 3pm, very close to the train station. Guests have open return train tickets and can return to Dublin city center with the guide or stay in Howth at their leisure. We are sorry for the misunderstanding and thank you once again for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We hope this experience will not prevent you from joining us again in the future. All the best, The SANDEMANs Team

We happened to do this tour on a day of uncharacteristically heavy rain and cold (it was Oct after all). There were also participants in a race racing up the same narrow path that we were ascending for the first 1/4 of the journey (a rare event our guide had never seen before).
