Entrance to the castle is included. Scotland’s second-most-popular tourist attraction as you learn about the bloody history including stories of the kings and queens who lived in this castle. There is evidence of a fort here for almost 3000 years, and it has been a royal castle since at least King David I’s reign in the 12th century. The Scottish monarchs continued to use it until 1633, and even saw the birth of King James VI within its walls. Your tour will begin on the esplanade of the castle as you hear your guide talking about the origins of the castle and its sieges. Once inside Edinburgh Castle, the guide will take you through the different parts of the fortress and tell you its fascinating history, including Scotland’s kings and queens. Inside the complex you will find three museums, two prisons, a canine cemetery, the Chapel of Saint Margaret which is the oldest building in the city, the National Monument to the fallen of Scotland, the Great Hall and a Royal Palace.

This tour was a highlight of our stay in Edinburgh! Richard is a compelling story-teller with formidable historical knowledge and we were totally captivated for the entire duration of the tour. We felt that we more than got our money's worth and cannot recommend Richard or this particular tour highly enough.
PS Even though it was a warm day there was a chilly wind that blew through parts of the castle and we were grateful for our down jackets.

Booked online and after a bit of faffing about to find where the tour guides meet you with their umbrellas at Advocates Close tucked in the Royal
Mile, we spent two hours in the safe hands of Richard, our guide. What a character. He brought the history of the castle and it’s previous residents truly to life with humour and respect in equal measure. His knowledge and fluency kept us all engaged from start to finish. If you book and get Richard - you’ve had an extra bonus!

Fabulous castle and definitely worth visiting.

Really insightful and detailed tour by Jula - She was entertaining and explained the stories behind the castle and it's history with a smile on her face and tried to be engaging as possible.

Never really done a tour like this before but will again.

Well done Jula - English Literatures loss - Edinburgh's History's gain.

Captivating narrative from our tour guide on this historic castle! He covered many points of interest. A tour well-worth going on. Trip Advisor took care of all the deets, making it very easy. My only tip would be to bring a jacket, as it is windy atop this elevated structure.

Sabella was a wonderful tour guide, explaining the history of the castle through storytelling. Fascinating throughout and even funny at times, Sabella kept us interested as we toured the beautiful castle grounds, adding a lot of depth to the various sights there.

The tour definitely added a lot to the experience and I would recommend the guided tour to get as much out of your Edinburgh Castle visit as possible.

Our tour with Alan was wonderful! He was so knowledgeable- a true history buff- and had a great sense of humor to boot. He was accommodating to every ability and made additional adaptations for those who were physically less able. He shared his umbrella with the group on a very hot day, shared the amazing history of the castle, and made us laugh. We would love to have Alan as a guide again.

Oh, and the castle history was pretty incredible, too. It was fascinating to learn that the oldest building in Scotland sat within these walls. Would absolutely recommend a guided tour.

A very enjoyable tour of the castle. Jen weaved her story together well as she told of the castle's history. She made the history easily digestible and relatable for a modern audience. Jen used lighthearted humor and overall made for an enjoyable tour.

It was nice to have a guide like Jen who beought the experience to life, rather than having to walk around the castle with headphones for an audio tour, as many others had to do.

Well worth getting a guide for a visit to Edinburgh castle. Jule was excellent, great knowledge, made it very interesting and she made it amusing as well. In addition to the tour she also recommended other parts of the castle to visit which was very helpful.
