Your tour begins with a morning pickup from Edinburgh's city center. Meet your guide and settle into the minivan for the journey south.

Begin following in the ancient Romans' footsteps with a drive along Dere Street, which once linked ports in southern England to central Scotland Roman settlements. Stop in the town of Jedburgh to visit the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian abbey before continuing to Carter Bar to take photos of the Anglo-Scottish border. Now that you have crossed over into England (don't worry, there's no border control), enjoy a scenic drive through Northumberland National Park.

The next stop is Steel Rigg, one of the richest Roman archaeological sites in Britain. Enjoy some free time to explore and to see Hadrian's Wall, the 73-mile-long (117.5 km) cobbled fortification built to separate Scotland from the Roman Empire. Next it's the medieval city of Lanercost, to hear more about the Anglo-Scottish wars, and to take a lunch break (own expense).

After a visit to Birdoswald to see one of the best-preserved Roman forts on Hadrian’s Wall, it's back to Edinburgh where you tour concludes back in Edinburgh's center.

A Perfect Tour

Hadrian's Wall was high on the list of places my wife and I wanted to visit. Rabbie's Travel Company seemed to offer exactly what we were interested in and we signed up during the summer. We fund the pick up point with out any problems...More

Good trip, lackluster guide

The museum at Vindolanda was spectacular and much bigger and in-depth than we originally expected. We recommend doing the museum before the archeological site, as we ran out of time and wished we’d spent more in the museum. The wall itself was also interesting and...More

This was my second trip to Scotland, and the one thing I remembered best was to tour with Rabbie's! I love the small group tours, well worth the money. This trip I took my grandsons, and while we spent time doing Harry Potter things, I...More

It all depends on what stops you make. We did not go into the paid site (there was one on our tour) and instead on our trip looked at some exhibitions at a place called the Stills which was free. Your best idea is to... More

Sycamore Gap does not sound familiar. What is it near?
