Alnwick Castle and the Scottish Borders Day Trip from Edinburgh

Overview
The border towns between England and Scotland hold centuries of secrets—from bloodthirsty warfare to royal reform. On this full-day sightseeing tour, travel in comfort through the countryside by air-conditioned minivan and visit the pretty border towns of Kelso and Berwick-upon-Tweed with ease. With your guide at the wheel, enjoy beautiful coastal views and visit Alnwick Castle—made famous in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies.
What to Expect
Take a seat aboard your air-conditioned minivan in the morning in central Edinburgh, and spin out of the city with your guide into the borderlands between Scotland and England to begin your tour.

First, stop in the pretty market town of Kelso and explore top attractions including Kelso Abbey. With your guide to lead the way, hear of the bloody conflicts between the Scottish and the English down the centuries.

Continue southward to Alnwick Castle—famous across the world as the fictional Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter movies. On arrival, enjoy three hours’ free time to explore at your leisure. Stroll the expansive grounds, and perhaps pay the entrance fee to explore the castle’s interior with a guide (own expense).

Afterward, head onward along the Northumberland coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed and admire spectacular views over coastal England. Here, explore the historic town center on foot and hear of the town’s tumultuous history under both English and Scottish rule.

Enjoy sweeping views along the banks of the Tweed River, then return in comfort to central Edinburgh to conclude your tour.

Nice Day Trip from Edinburg for the Family

We were looking to do something that had less of a drive than going to Inverness, and if it had a Harry Potter connection, all the better. The Mercedes minibus from Rabbies was comfortable and cool. Our guide/driver, Barney, told entertaining and informative stories about...More

Tour primarily focused on Alnwick castle but you get to spend 3 hours here. The small trips on the way were well worth it except for Dunbar. Adam was an excellent guide. I wasn't sure if a group tour was needed rather than just taking...More
