Steam Trains, Whitby, and the North York Moors Full-Day Tour from York
From US$53.82
Overview
See North Yorkshire’s countryside and coast on a day trip from York. An in-depth overview of the northern county’s delights, this day trip takes you to more sites than you’d manage to see alone. Explore market towns, such as Helmsley, plus North York Moors National Park, Whitby, and filming locations in Goathland—a treat for Heartbeat and Harry Potter fans alike. Finally, finish with a steam train ride across the moors.
What to Expect
Leave York and travel into the North Yorkshire countryside to the pretty market town of Helmsley. Stretch your legs on a walk through the center, before continuing high into the hills, past the limestone village of Hutton-le-Hole. Then, arrive in North York Moors National Park for a stroll across its heather-filled moorland, learning about Yorkshire’s mining and farming heritage.
Venture onward to coastal Whitby for some free time to explore the harbor, or perhaps treat yourself to an English seaside classic of fish 'n' chips.
Later, travel to Goathland, aka Aidensfield in the UK Heartbeat series, to see filming locations aplenty. Harry Potter fans are also in for a treat—the railway site doubled as Hogsmeade Station in the films.
Finish on a high note, traveling via steam train across the moors to Pickering. From here, it’s back on the coach to York.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day tour. The pick up point was ideal, just across from York Minster. We enjoyed being a part of a small group (16) on a comfortable mini bus, although I think the people in the back row were a little cramped....More
