What to expect
  • Bring your walking shoes and a healthy appetite on this culinary tour of Montreal’s Jewish neighborhood. Make your way to the area in the late morning to meet your local foodie guide, and set off by foot through the charming historic streets. Your first stop is a deli specializing in smoked meats in the district of Outremont, home to a large Hasidic Jewish community. Enjoy a taste of three dishes used in traditional Jewish cooking while your guide gives an overview of Montreal’s culinary makeup. Continue on to a local kosher bakery to sample sumptuous Jewish desserts, which may include chocolate babka, triangular stuffed hamentashen, nutty rugelach and poppy seed cake. No Jewish food tour would be complete without a visit to a bagel joint, so taste for yourself what some claim to be Montreal’s best bagel at the next stop.  In between tasting stops, admire the neighbor’s diverse architecture and listen to your guide share tales of famous former residents, such as writer Mordecai Richler.  To get a true feel the neighborhood’s dining scene, pop in to a local restaurant that’s been dishing up authentic Jewish dishes for more than 80 years.  By the end of the tour, expect to eat five to seven different samples that make up a satisfying meal.

Make time for this tour if you’re in Montréal
Sep 2021 • Friends
This tour is worth every penny. Bring your most comfortable walking shoes, stretchy pants, and a big appetite! Not only was the food delicious but the history and stories that went with them were so interesting and enjoyable! Fantastic tour to wander from Outremont to Le Plateau and around the Mile End while learn how a mosaic of cultures has made Montréal the place it is now. I will definitely do this again, Melissa is amazing. You walk about 3 ish Km and it goes for 4 hours. I wouldn’t bring my toddler. Walk is on sidewalks so not hard but you still have to be able to walk for half a day.

I'm not sure who this is, but thank you so much for the review and warning people to be ready to eat and walk! It really is that. You will only do this tour once, so you may as well go all out and taste it all! It is an active tour even though you feel like you could roll home with the heavy eating! :) It really is worth it. It is a jam-packed content and history rich tour! You really get the full experience in 4 hours!

Excellent Jewish Food Tour of Montreal
Aug 2021
A great food tour, really worthwhile, you get more food than you can eat and a great variety of different menu items. Plus, you get a good solid history of the Jewish communities, their migration and locations in Montreal. Our tour guide really knew her stuff. One cavet, be sure and wear good walking shoes and be ready for a 3.5 km walk.

Best food tour in Montreal !
Aug 2020 • Friends
Melissa's Jewish food tour shined an intimate lens into Montreal's Jewish roots, cuisine and culture. She was so positive, well-informed and careful to choose the best eats in the city from the big name eateries to the small mom-and-pop shops in the Mile End/Plateau. Highly recommend!

Best food tour in Montreal. Our guide Melissa, was amazing. Knowledgeable, professional and so personable. Unlike other food tours where many of the guides seemed less experienced and needed to use guide books for tour details. She knew the history of the Jewish neighborhood and was well acquainted with and welcomed by every eatery owner. Incredible value.

Fun tour with great food!
Jul 2019 • Couples
My husband and I were interested in seeing a different side of Montreal so we signed up for this Jewish food tour. Darren, our tour guide, was fantastic. We started at Lester's Deli with the most amazing smoked meat sandwich either of us has ever had. The neighborhoods were interesting, the walking was easy and all the stops were great. We highly recommend this tour!

Great tour of the food and history of the neighbourhood
We really enjoyed our tour and we were well taken care of. We learned a lot about the food and neighbourhood and some history of the city. The guide made the tour interactive and multidimensional with poetry, history, culture and photos of the original buildings. We are looking forward to taking another tour.

Delicious introduction to Jewish Montreal
Jun 2019 • Couples
Frances, a native of one of this Jewish neighborhood, took us on a delightful and delicious tour yesterday. We even got to “taste off” the top bagels and the top smoked meats of Montreal. The four hour tour took us through a lovely Hasidic neighborhood where we got to see the residents at work and the kids at play. Frances gave us the inside scoop on all the famous buildings and and shared stories of some of the most famous residents. My husband found that the Special Wolinsky sandwich reminded him of his childhood. Melissa Simard, the owner of Round Table Tours was a delight to work with and helped us for months to obtain the reservations we wanted, Thanks, Melissa!l. We had enough food so that we did not need to have dinner. Some of our favorite dishes were the falafel, the Chocolate Babka, the Wolensky sandwich and the spectacular Montreal bagels that we liked more than the NewYork ones to which we are accustomed.

Savory, sweet, and not to be missed!
May 2019 • Friends
What a great tour! From smoked meat to bagels to babka and more, every bite was delicious. The walk was well paced. Melissa was wonderful. She balanced the history of Montreal and Montreal’s Jewish community, photos, and poems, with information on the food and the families who run the restaurants and bakeries. It was more than eating, it was a walk through the history of the neighborhoods. This is a don’t miss experience. It was a highlight of our time in Montreal.

What a great way to see and taste Montreal!!
Apr 2019 • Friends
I visited Montreal with my cousin and our 23 year old kids. This tour was enjoyed by all. We visited 8 different restaurants/bakeries. The bagels, smoked meats, and falafel were delicious. The chocolate babka from Cheskie’s was divine! Melissa did a great job bringing the history of Jewish Montreal to life. Don’t miss this tour!!
