- 2chow0 contributionsA fantastic trip-great guides, food and lots of whale sightingsOn this trip, we not only got to see lots of grey whales including several sightings of a mama-baby pair, but also got to eat some of the best food of our Los Cabos vacation! Our biologist guides were Andrea from Spain and Maria from Peru. They drove the 6 of us from Hotel Tesoro to a tiny family-owned hotel and dining hall that was a short walk from the Port of Lopez Mateos. About an hour up the coast, we stopped at the best restaurant of this trip for breakfast. It was called Lonchera La Garrita in Todos Santos. They brought out a salsa and fried panela cheese tray with chips. The two of us shared a huge chilaquiles plate with red and green sauces and refried beans. Others had the most luscious looking tamales (moist and covered with a fantastic red sauce), chicken picadillo smothered in red and green sauce with fried eggs, fruit platters, etc. Once we arrived at Restaurant Hotel Familiar, we got a fantastic home cooked meal of shrimp and fish tacos in homemade flour tortillas with chips and the best salsa of the trip. There was another group of 7 that met us there. The hotel itself was a bit run down looking, with finicky plumbing, but we quite enjoyed our stay. The plumbing was noisy when the hot water was on for showers, but quiet once they turned it off for the night and we slept well as the bed was comfortable. Then it was out onto the boats. I am glad they told us to bring warm clothes, as I ended up with wool hat and gloves, a long sleeve shirt under an alpaca sweater and windbreaker. Also glad we had scopolamine patches as it was rough in the area they call The Blender. The boats were small, allowing closer views, and felt extremely stable despite the waves. The whale sitings were amazing and we got some fairly close views of the blowhole area, barnacles, ridges along the tail and flukes. No babies yet because El Niño caused a low birth rate and they had only seen one baby the whole season. For dinner it was lobster tail and fish with salad with more chips and salsa. After an early awakening with breakfast at 6:15, we headed out again. Saw a lot more whales, including a mother-baby pair with usually a small spout followed by a large spout. At one point we were completely surrounded with spouts going around the clockface. We also saw a lot of dolphins and pelicans, cormorants, herons and frigatebirds. At lunch, which was more fish and shrimp tacos on handmade flour tortillas, one of the guys brought out a different salsa that was simply amazing, with a slow heat that built to a slightly higher heat than their regular salsa. As we dug in, he obviously got concerned that it might disappear and he took it away. Turns out he made it for his father in law to have with his lunch and just wanted to give us a taste. Then it was a 6 h drive back to our hotel. A fantastic excursion!! The only slight downside was that it was a bit tight for three people in the very back of the van, so we took turns sitting back there. We made friends on this trip and hope to keep in touch. Our bags were always secure locked either in the van, or in the hotel room during both boat rides. We had brought our rollaboards as we checked out of our hotel before this trip, but the other two couples just had overnight backpacks, and these bags just fit into the rather small space at the back of the van. I think they do have a larger van, if for instance, our group had filled to the maximum 8 per boat. I feel very comfortable with this company -- they went towards, but did not chase the whales or dolphins, and would book with Cabo Trek again.Written 15 March 2024
- ATay2510 contributionsLovely ExperienceReally enjoyed my tour with Vana. She was extremely knowledgeable and nice to speak with. The captain was also very efficient and stayed a respectful but satisfying distance from the whales at all times. Bea was also incredibly kind and helpful in getting me sorted when I struggled to arrange for an Uber/taxi to pick me up from the marina due to some issues with my mobile service. It meant a lot that she took the time to order one for me, walk to directly to the car, and ensure the driver knew where I was headed. She even checked in to make sure I arrived back to our villa safely. This was so appreciated as I was in a bit of a tizzy over it before I’d asked for help. Overall a great experience spending time close to these magnificent creatures. 10/10 would recommend. ♥️🐋Written 15 March 2024
- rosemariee2650 contributionsSunset whale cruise didn’t disappointAmazing! We saw a baby humpback whale with its mother and two males. Absolutely beautiful, especially as we watched them breach against the setting sun. Ourarine biologist guide and boat captain were both fabulous and informative. Highly recommend.Written 7 March 2024
- katG3548GQ0 contributionsWonderful whale watching experienceI had a great time with Cabo Trek! Our marine biologist, Angelica, was extremely knowledgeable and kind. Our driver was also excellent and kept a respectful distance from the wildlife, but ensured we had excellent views of the hunpbacks and false killer whales that we encountered. I appreciated the small group size and the boat was comfortable. I look forward to booking more tours with Cabo Trek the next time I come to Cabo.Written 3 March 2024
- berkleypup0 contributionsWhale watching dreams do come true!We all were thrilled with our experience, it actually exceeded expectations. Our group of four spent one night at Hotel Isabela , which was very nice and the associated restaurant was great. The next morning we set out with a. friendly boat driver, Juan Carlos, and had a covered panga boat all to the 4 of our group. we saw whale spouts almost immediately after arriving at the south end of the bay, and in a very short time we were right next to them. There were about 4 adult whales interested in the tour boats- they would hang out and swim right underneath or surface in the center of a tight circle of boats .The guides were all respectful of the whales, and knowledgeable about the area. Do not expect a ‘naturalist’ type tour, however. I highly recommend this outfitter!Written 3 March 2024
- Daddyohdad0 contributionsA whale of a good timeOur guide Vanuza was very knowledgeable and made the trip next level and our captain Adrian made it comfortable and of course found the whales ! Highly recommendedWritten 2 March 2024
- terio3840 contributionsSunset Whale WatchingAlthough their were not a lot of whales out the night we went we followed a momma and her baby for a while, the baby put on quite a show for us breaching 12-14 times. I really like that we were also given a lot of information and history as well. I’ ve always found the employees from Cabo Trek to be very knowledgeable and it was the most beautiful sunset that night.Written 2 March 2024
- Benandersonchiro0 contributionsOnly legit crewThere are lots of whale watching tours, but non of the others had the legit eco license. We saw a baby full breach like five times. Knowledgeable marine biologist guide. Couldn’t be better.Written 28 February 2024
- Jessica832040 contributionsBest experience EVER!!!First of all, our tour guide Angelica was incredibly kind, professional and knowledgeable and yes, a real marine biologist. The tours are smaller on a good size boat so you can move around, they had water and even took incredible pictures of us near the arch. We saw about 25 whales, this was a fluke but if you go in late February you can hit the jackpot! The photos that Angelica took were incredible and I would highly recommend that you view the professional photos afterwards, a cell phone will not do the trip justice. It was the best thing I did in Cabo!!!!Written 28 February 2024
- M5073PLrobs0 contributionsAmazing sunset and whales!!We recently enjoyed the sunset whale watching tour and absolutely was not disappointed!! Silvia and Adrian did a marvelous job of giving us the most enjoyable experience ever!! Thanks to the whole team!!! We were able to see multiple humpbacks along with their babies... And the sunset was spectacular!!Written 27 February 2024
- LenaSkinner0 contributionsSpectacular Sunset AND Whales!Spectacular Sunset AND Whales! We had a spectacular sunset cruise with Cabo Trek and Sylvia and Captain Adrian. We first took a peek at the Arch and Pelican Rock as we headed out of the Marina. Then we saw several whales . Mommas and babies! Sylvia was very knowledgeable and informative and Captain Adrian had a great eye for spotting them and was good at maneuvering the boat for good pictures. We only had six people out of a possible 10. We followed a pair of whales on the Pacific side and easily saw over a dozen full breaches and dives with the Mom and Baby. Sylvia was able to predict when the baby was about to jump because of the slapping of her fins. I like that Cabo Trek is respectful of these beautiful creatures and knowledgeable. Captain Adrian did a great job managing a few swells we had while keeping up with the whales. We headed back to the Marina and still caught a glowing sunset behind the Arch. Absolutely spectacular!Written 22 February 2024

We booked a day or two in advance and on the day of the trip they called and asked if we wanted to reschedule due to the high wind. We said no way we want to go! The wind died down and we were the only group on the boat. Vanusa our marine biologist and Freddie our captain were amazing. We saw a ton of whales and they were so friendly and welcoming. Vanusa was a wealth of information and so nice. It was an amazing trip!!!!Written 12 February 2024
- Stilren0 contributionsTrip of a lifetime!!I had been wanting to do this trip for years after doing the humpback whale watching tour with Cabo Trek many times. We were finally able to spend the time to go on this trip and it didn’t disappoint! First off, Angie and Andrea were amazing! We could not ask for a better guides, they were so knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about what they do. Their concern for our comfort and safety was second to none. They are also very good drivers! We had an amazing time from start to finish, being out on the water with the gray whales on my birthday was definitely a bucket list moment! To be able to see these majestic creatures up close was a dream of mine. Don’t worry about taking photos, the guides have the best cameras and will take the most fantastic photos. We can’t say enough about this trip if you want to have an adventure in Mexico and commune with the whales in their warm winter habitat. Highly recommend this trip and Cabo Trek, they are the absolute best. Thank you Angie and Andrea!!!Written 9 February 2024

We took a trip on 17th February and saw humpback whales with calfs, dolphins and a sea turtle. At one point we had six whales around our boat. The marine biologist, Angelica was very knowledgeable and was a great guide and the safety on board was excellent too. I would 100% recommend Cabo Trek and think it was excellent value for money.

We highly recommend this tour if you are interested in viewing and learning about whales in the Cabo San Lucas area. The crew were welcoming and focused on finding whales for us to see. The marine biologist on board was enthusiastic and provided us with very current information about whales and their life. We were extremely impressed with their attention to the environment; committed to training staff in techniques to save whales entangled in nets, providing reusable cups for water, etc. They also respected the safety and well being of the whales by cutting their motor and staying a respectable distance away from them yet still providing premier viewing opportunities. The photographer on board took some excellent photos. The captain was fully focussed on operating the boat as he continually searched for whales. We would definitely book with this company again.

This excursion really lived up to our expectations - in fact exceeded our expectations. WHY? Carlos, the marine biologist who was our tour guide. Between Carlos, the boat operator and Cristina, the camera person, we saw a pod of Orcas going after a Humpback calf tucked under the Mother and protected by a Nanny whale. Carlos' knowledge of whales combined with his excitement every time we saw one, made the trip just awesome. Seeing the Humpbacks and the Orcas was really special. And we learned a ton of information about whales. Thanks Carlos and your team at Cabo Trek!

The day was cold and very windy, we had to take a larger boat out. We saw two whales one further away and one we follow for the whole trip. This was a humpback whale, it must of been very happy. Very active whale, it tail waved, rolling, slapping it's fins on the water and we lost count on how many times it breached, it was a awesome time. Are marine biologist was very knowledgeable. we talk to many other people that also went whale watching and found it very boring thier whales never came out of the water. Thank you Cabo Trek for such a great experience.

I got to see at least five different whales. The marine biologist on the boat works well with the skipper to safely guide the boat alongside the whales.
I learnt so much from the informative guide and had a wonderful few hours at sea with the humpbacks. Finally they dropped a microphone in the water; so we could listen to the whales singing live. Amazing experience.
These guys also collect the data from their trips to feedback to global research on whales and their conservation.
Sorry my photos don’t do it the justice it deserves!

I was looking for an ethical business to go whale watching with as many of the other companies are styled as buffet/booze cruises, which really didn’t appeal, and have questionable practices such as throwing bread in the water to attract fish for snorkellers.
Cabo trek didn’t disappoint on that front. It is a professional operation with a max of 8 guests on a comfortable, large panga style boat with shade. Our boat had the maximum 8 on board so we all had good views and definitely had the fewest people on board by far. A RIB boat of approx the same size that hung out near us and had easily double the number of guests.
Perhaps it was a quiet day/bad luck but I didn’t get any enthusiasm from the captain or the guide. While they weren’t impolite or unprofessional, it felt very much like they were simply going through the motions.
One thing I really didn’t like was the handing out of little plastic bottles of water. The guide gave a short speech about the use of single use plastic on board so I was less than impressed by this. I get that certain guests may have forgotten their reusable water bottles (which we were reminded to bring along in the booking email) but perhaps a better way would be to offer them use of reusable cups on board.

We wish we could offer you a better tour: I honestly can't explain any better than you did in your review why they day was a bit too quiet.
But checking on the date of when your review was posted, my best guess is that all the worries about the Corona
Virus pandemia news must have affected the humor in our team: in fact those were our last days of work as we had to anticipate the ending of the season.
We apologize and will try to make things better next time.
We hope you'll give us another chance and are looking forward to have you on our excursion soon again, check out the other tours we have available, all of them are guided by marine biologist and/or naturalist and with the same quality you've experienced during your trip.

I was told there was a scheduling conflict because they overbooked our whale watching trip which I booked a month before. My wife and I already planned other excursions and I told them unfortunately was not able to move things around. He told me he would get back to me today...The next day I received an email confirming my whale watching trip which was at the normally scheduled date and time which we thought was all good. Then at 8:00 pm, received an email saying they need to move me and gave me no choices...if this is how they do business, they can go pound salt! There are many more whale watching trips and if I didn't already pay for this, I'd ask for a refund...go somewhere else!

Hi Jerry,
we've been very honest with you from start and contacted you way in advance to resolve a case of overbooking: we gave you plenty of new options to choose from and in the worse case scenario we offered a full refund.
Unfortunately we are going through tough times (as many others as well of course) due to the COVID situation: here in Cabo we are working at 50% capacity and also due to lack of tourists we are struggling like many other businesses.
So i'll explain it again to you and to everyone else who will be reading your review:
I received a booking for private tour for the time slot where only the 2 of you were booked.
In these tough days and with no other options (and believe me i've tried everything possible) I opted to run the private tour, because I'm trying to secure the future of Cabo Trek and that of 5 families that rely on it.
I understand the inconvenience we've caused, and are aware that we are trying to change a booking you've made well in advance: but we also offered many different options and solutions.
I understand there's a conflict that needed to be resolved so I kindly asked you, and I apologized many times for the inconvenience, if it was possible to reschedule your tour. I counted on your common sense, as many other of our valuable costumers did accept to reschedule their trips.
I’m sorry I don't see any shady business practices here...
If you don't agree with the offered options we also offered a full refund, no hard feelings.
Things don't always work out the way we want them to...
I believe we've acted in the best possible way to find a solution that makes everyone happy and where hoping to find a bit more comprehension, understanding, eventually solidarity and empathy for a difficult situation...
But you’ve decided to go the other way...
And all I got from you in return, was a PHONE CALL were you've been VERY (!) DISRESPECTFUL, OFFENSIVE and shouting some attempts of dodgy business strategies (if anyone i curious to know how and what, you can contact me in private info@cabotrek.com) to get what you wanted.
With all the respect, your dollars are (were) important to us and i would have loved to provide you the service as every bit of business counts at the moment, but there's a limit, a line of DIGNITY that you have crossed and that i'm not willing to accept.
Cabo Trek is a renown company in Cabo San Lucas with a proven record of providing excellent services to thousands of people since 2013 with strong moral integrity, we believe that we deserve at least some sort of respect.
You're welcome to take your business to other companies.
Thank you and enjoy your stay in Cabo
PS: we've immediately refunded you when you told us you where no longer interested in our tour. Telling lies brings even more bad Karma.
LONG LIVE CABO TREK!

My hubby and I did the afternoon whale watching 2 1/2 hour boat excursion on February 11, 2020 around the famous arch where are guide took pics of us and others aboard. Got some great videos of humpback whale breaching several times and slapping the water numerous times with a giant fin. Spectacular but the marine biologist guide warned that this was quite unusual and an outstanding show from the humpbacks. Guess we were lucky, but I would still recommend this adventure during the peak migration of the whales. Absolutely fantastic!! Our

This was the highlight to the adventure to Cabo. This company was top shelf. The only place they dropped the ball was on communication on how to locate their office & meeting place for the trip. They could learn from Cabo Adventures, who has their various excursions down to a science. However, with that said, we did an early morning 8:00 AM whale watch with Cabo Trek and it was the right company for us, the right time and we didn't just see a whale of two. We saw many and they were extremely active, breeching and flapping. Very cool. I recommend you either go on the first outing of the day or save your money. Our observation was that the whales seems more active in the early morning than at other times of the day. Anyway, this is a great company, they take your safety seriously, The captains are knowledgeable and the marine biologist in this case, Vanusa (who double's as the photographer) is quite knowledgeable as well. Also it seems that Cabo Trek, by going out early, gets the jump on the other "traffic" on the water, also whale watching. (There were also large rental party boats on the water blasting rock music and rap music to contend with among other things - it has a way of spoiling the peaceful serenity of the whale watch process). So getting out early has its advantages.

Great tour near Cabo San Lucas to see whales. On the way to see the whales, we went by the famous Cabo arch and saw the sea lion colony. The guide, Angelica I believe was her name, is a passionate marine biologist who was very knowledgeable. If you love the ocean, chose this company as they work with the local college to study whales, and are incorporating Ocean Restoration into their operation. We saw plenty of whales, although none breached, our guide and captain worked diligently to make sure we saw as many whales as possible - total of about 8. Photographer took some great photos, although we did not purchase any. They also did not make purchasing photos feel forceful. The team was flexible and accommodating, we changed our reservation the morning of due to scheduling issues. Although, I would recommend doing the earlier trip as there is less boat traffic and more whales out. Would highly recommend.

We left at 8AM from Los Cabo marina. Water calm and boat was 32 ft long with 250 hp outboard motor. Everyone wear life jackets. Was designed for 15 passengers. We had 8 on our trip. Boat was able to easily move along to follow whales and move to new sightings.
Highly recommend

Last year we went on a morning Whale Watching tour. While we saw spouts and backs, we didn't get the grand "breach" or other antics seen on tv. What time of day did you go?

We went during the midday tour. Didn't see a full breach but saw tons of tail action and even had 2 swim right under our boat.

We saw catamarans, but they had way too many guests on board.

We are coming in on a Carnival cruise January 17th. Is the departure far from the port where Carnival stops? What type of boats do you have? My mom had hip replacement with a walker so we are looking for a whale tour close to port
