Hello Debbie, We understand your fear regarding this issue, however, I’m afraid you may be confused with these terms. Thank you for voicing your concerns; this gives us the opportunity to clarify this issue for anybody else out there that may have it wrong: Cavern = no more than 200 ft of depth and penetration, visual contact with a breathable surface and use of a guideline so that, should sight of the entrance be accidentally lost, divers can immediately regain it. Cave = a form of technical diving that uses highly specialized equipment. No light whatsoever, depth and penetration beyond the limits of cavern diving, no guideline, and no air pockets. Cenote = Spanish word, derived from the Maya "dzonot" (which literally means hole with water) to describe the entrance to an underground river. During our cenote diving tours, customers are in a cavern area at all times. Tajma Ha has many air pockets where you have access to the surface even if it is dark and the customer has not noticed. You were in a guideline circuit the whole time; this line is a cavern zone and at no point does it pass to the cave zone, if this were the case we would be reported and vetoed from the cenote. Neither you nor your sons were in danger at any moment; we just wish you had known this at the time so you could have enjoyed your tour.

We used the Aquaworld desk at Secrets Maroma Beach to sign up for a two-tank cenote dive, as they (correctly) predicted that the ocean dives wouldn't go out the next day. Overall it was a good because the cenote was amazing and a unique experience, but I would recommend using a
