Overview
Nature lovers and hikers will not want to miss the chance to hike up the 17,000-foot (5,000-meter) dormant volcano outside of Mexico City. As the trek involves considerable walking on uneven terrain, exploring with a guide guarantees your safety and security, and ensures you're able to ascend to near the summit  for magnificent views of the Valley of Mexico.
Highlights
  • Take a guided intermediate trek on the dormant Iztaccihuatl volcano
  • Comfortable transportation delivers you from your hotel to the mountain trail
  • See the Valley of Mexico and Popocatepetl volcano from another perspective
  • Escape the heat and city smog with a day in the fresh mountain air
What to Expect
Your guide collects you first thing in the morning from your Mexico City hotel. You’ll travel by comfortable, air-conditioned mini-bus two hours east to Iztaccihuatl Volcano’s base. Break for breakfast before climbing over the Paso de Cortés to La Joya, where the trail starts at an elevation of 12,000 feet (3,700 meters). From there, the 3-hour hike takes you to between 13,800 to 15,800 feet (4,200-4,800 meters), depending on the abilities of those in your small group. At your stopping point, you’ll have time to rest, snap photos and admire the view of the Smoking Mountain next door, the active Popocatepetl volcano, as well as the expansive Valley of Mexico. You’ll descend back to the bus for your return trip to your Mexico City hotel, with a stop to allow hungry hikers to buy lunch from local vendors.

Excellent day out. The climb isn't easy at that altitude so you need to be reasonably fit. We had good weather so views were amazing and it wasn't cold, but be prepared. Our guide, Gerson, was a scream - you're in for a treat if you get him. The lunch stop on the way back was
