Stop: 4 hours - Admission included
Located in the area between Paseo de la Reforma and Mahatma Gandhi Street within Chapultepec Park in Mexico City, the museum contains significant archaeological and anthropological artifacts from Mexico’s pre-Columbian heritage, such as the Stone of the Sun (or the Aztec calendar stone) and the Aztec Xochipilli statue. The museum is the synthesis of an ideological, scientific, and political feat. The museum’s collections include the Stone of the Sun, giant stone heads of the Olmec civilization that were found in the jungles of Tabasco and Veracruz, treasures recovered from the Mayan civilization, at the Sacred Cenote at Chichen Itza, among others. It also has a model of the location and layout of the former Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, the site of which is now occupied by the central area of modern-day Mexico City. The permanent exhibitions on the ground floor cover all pre-Columbian civilizations located on the cur- rent territory of Mexico as well as in former Mexican territory in what is today the southwestern United States. The museum also hosts visiting exhibits, generally focusing on other of the world’s great cultures

This is a comprehensive museum that truly captures the essence of Mexico. Easy to get to with an Uber from our Central Historic District hotel. Enjoyed a relaxing lunch on-site to break up our 7-hour visit.

Fabio was a super guide at this amazing museum. He made the history of Mexico come alive with his interpretation of many of the displays. I was so glad I chose the tour instead of a visit on my own.

I joined a guided tour with Amigotour. The museum is a must to visit. Our great guide Emmanuel made it enjoyable. His explanation really helped me to understand the amazing Mayan and Aztec civilizations. 很棒的博物館,我參加了一個有導遊的參觀,更能夠了解和欣賞到博物館裏頭的展品,確是很值的去,也很建議找一個導遊來介紹。
