We'll take you to the easiest nicest brake point around Puerto Vallarta, near to Punta Mita, to learn how to ride a wave on a surfboard. After warm up exercises we will give you a lesson on the beach to practice before we go in the water. Your instructor will keep correcting you until you will be able to ride waves by yourself, explaining you all the little details you have to know to practice this magnificent sport. As a private tour you decide how long you want to spend practicing surfing, hangout on the beach or keep driving to explore a colorful mexican surf town... Sayulita. Here you can admire the mexican culture, taste diferent alternatives of food, drinks and unique souvenirs.

Must Do- Just Try It!
My husband has always wanted to try a surf lesson and we are so glad we did!

Booking the trip was easy. We met the owners son at their store front and headed north. After about a 40 min drive and 10 min walk, we were at the beach. I wore work out leggings and sneakers for the walk and glad I did. It wasn’t necessarily a rough walk but it just made it easier. Bring water, sunblock and a towel for sure. The beach was amazing. Our instructor gave us pointers and instruction. He then stayed in the water and rotated between us. He was patient even when I threw in the towel. My husband was successful at getting up and we both had a wonderful time!

We then went to Sayulita for lunch and headed back to Puerto Vallarta. Of all the places we’ve been, today was a memorable one. Such a great experience!

Best personalized surfing experience
Jan 2021
I have been on 2 surfs tours with Xiutla riders, both in La Lancha, a very nice beach 45 mins driving from PV.
First we started the lesson on the beach, Fernando gave me great and helpful explanations on how to position on the board and how to properly get up. Once in the water, he assisted in catching the waves and gave me the paddling path, great sessions!
After the surfing session, Fernando offered to visit and have lunch in Sayulita, a surfing town 20mins driving from la Launcha, it was a great opportunity to discover the lovely colorful town.
I had 2 fun and great experiences, learning how to surf and exploring the area, I highly recommend touring with Xiutla Riders.

Surfing and Sayuilta were great - be prepared for lots of driving
Jan 2021
Our surf lessons were very fun.
We met Fernando at his shop and he took my husband and I, and another girl who had signed up for the day, to a beach almost an hour away. I didn't realize how far away this other surf beach was, that was the only disappointment of the day.

Once we arrived, we put on rash guards. If you are a large person, be sure to bring one of your own. My husband has broad shoulders and of medium - large build and the rash guards Fernando had were too small for him. There are other rash guards to rent at another surf shop there for 50 pesos each, I was glad I brought one of my own. Fernando said it's a necessity - one for the cold water, and two to protect your body from the rash you'd get from the surf board.

So once we were all set, we carried our surfboards through a small jungle path. You can do the hike pretty easily in flip flops, but it's a bit of a hike - 10 or 15 minutes to reach the beach. The way there wasn't too bad, but the way back you're pretty exhausted from surfing and you have to carry your heavy surfboard all the way back.

The beach was very picturesque and beautiful. A great beach for surfing with lots of easy waves, especially early in the morning. However, there were TONS of other surfers (mostly tourists like us having lessons) so we were not the only ones out there. We went in January during the coronavirus when most of Puerto Vallarta seemed almost empty, this beach was full of surfers.

On the beach Fernando was very helpful instructing us and giving us some good tips about where to put our feet. In the water he had us get on the board and he would hold the back of the board until the wave came and he would push the surf board into the wave and then we could stand up on the surf board and ride the wave to shore. This worked pretty smoothly and he told me that if I could stand up and ride 5 of those waves he would let me paddle to catch my own waves.

So after about 45 minutes I started paddling to try to catch my own waves (with Fernando nearby to tell me when to start paddling.) This was a lot harder to get my timing down and I only caught one wave this way before we left the beach for the day.

Somewhere in the middle of our surf session there we took a break to sit on the beach and catch our breath and warm up from the sun.

After surfing and a long hike back to his SUV, we dried off and headed to Sayulita. (Side note, you should bring a towel! We didn't and had to just dry off from the sun, but a light weight towel or sarong would have been helpful to brush off the sand.

It took about 25 minutes to get to Sayuilta, and by the time we got there it was nearly 2PM. He let us get out and look for souvenirs and grab lunch before meeting back up with him for the drive home. We had another appointment at our hotel at 3:30 that made us have to hurry home, but I would have loved to spend more time in Sayuilta. It was very pretty and picturesque, but also MUCH more crowded than Puerto Vallarta. We stayed at the Hyatt Ziva in PV and it took us about 1.5 hours to drive back home.

So my advice it be ready for this adventure to take all day long. If we had not planned anything for later that afternoon we would have been able to enjoy our day more. There was much more driving involved that I thought there would be, so be prepared to spend much of your day driving. Other than that, we enjoyed our day and Fernando was great to work with and completely fluent in English.

Amazing experience!

If you're looking for unique and immersive tours then you're in the right place, Fernando and his guys are awesome and do a really good job. They're very personable, and do their very best to make your experience the best one possible.

My girlfriend and I started our trip with a surf tour/lesson, which Fernando (owner) took us on. We drove up to an awesome beach called la Lancha about 45 minutes north of PV. This is one of the most highly recommended surf spots in the area and it didn't disappoint. We had surfed before but are still beginners, however Fernando gave us some great pointers and was even out in the water with us checking our form and helping us catch waves. It was a great session! After that we drove up to Sayulita, a well traveled surf town about an hour or so north of PV, an awesome little town that we would also highly recommend. Had a great time hanging with Fernando, he's very down to earth and genuinely a really cool guy!

Having enjoyed the surf tour so much we decided to book another tour with them, so we decided to do an ATV tour. We went with Juan, who is also a really cool and down to earth guy who does a great job at tour guiding. We chose to take the tour route up in to the mountains based on his recommendation and were not disappointed one bit! Not only did we get to see some really great views and scenery, but also made a couple of really cool stops along the way (I'll leave it at that so as not to ruin the surprise, just know they're worth it if you choose to stop). We have experience in motorsports so Juan didn't hesitate to speed it up a bit once he noticed we were up for a little more excitement. We had an awesome time!

One of the things we liked the most about both tours was that they had a general outline of where we were going to go for each tour, however they gave us options for each one so that we could have the experience that we were looking for. They were very conscious of their groups limits in both tours. These guys provide a one of a kind experience and we would highly recommend them!

We had a group of 3 adults and 2 observers for a surfing lesson. Fernando was on time to meet us, had a mask, was professional but by the end of the day it felt like we had gone with a friend to surf and have lunch!

Fernando took us to a beach ~1hr from Puerto Vallarta. After a short walk through a jungle, we arrived at a beach that was fairly quiet and had incredibly consistent waves, great for beginners. Started with guidance on the beach followed by jumping into the water to catch waves. Fernando cycled between the 3 adults, providing guidance to each person after each wave. Ive had surfing lessons in Australia, Hawaii and Bali, and this was the most helpful surf lesson I have had to date (despite many surfing lessons we are still beginners as we only surf once every 5 years or so!). Fernando provided guidance that I hadn't heard before and helped to improve my surfing significantly. After the lesson, we had some time to play in the beach, walked out of the jungle, rinsed the sand off at a gas station and bought water. Fernando took us to nearby Sayulita (surf town) for post surfing food, which was incredible! The surf day/lunch was one of the major highlights of our trip. Would highly recommend and would do this again

Great surfing adventure!
Nov 2020
I booked this excursion for myself and my 15-year-old daughter, who has always dreamed of learning to surf. Jean Carlo was our private guide and he did not disappoint! We met him at their company office in downtown PV. The ride to the beach was about an hour, but JC made very friendly conversation and the drive passed quickly. Once we parked near the beach, there was a 10 or so minute walk through the jungle to get the beach. The beach was beautiful! After about a 15-minute lesson on the beach, we got in the water. JC stayed in the water and alternated helping the two of us catch waves. He was great! He gave us lots of good pointers and helped us with technique so we could stay up longer. By the end of a couple hours, we were both staying up fairly consistently. We were exhausted! We both relaxed and nearly fell asleep on the drive back to PV.

This is a friendly and reliable family-owned business. Our guide Jean Carlo works with his father and they have grown this business over several years here. I loved hearing their story, and their positive TripAdvisor reviews are very well-deserved!

A few things to know about this surfing trip:
1) You will probably be sore the next day. This is GREAT exercise. The good surfers make it look very easy, but it is really a great workout for us beginners!
2) I'd recommend wearing tennis shoes. We had flip-flops on and were OK, but the walk through the jungle trail would've been a little easier with better shoes.
3) The waves were just big enough that we felt like it was an adventure, but not scary. There were several children much younger than my daughter at the beach and they were doing great. JC was so patient, I could see that he'd be great even with younger kids.
4) If you're middle-aged like me, don't be afraid to try this! JC showed us two different ways to stand up on the board--one easier than the other--so if you are even minimally active you can do this!

Stupendous Surfing Lesson
Oct 2020
Shortly after arriving in PV, I decided I wanted to learn to surf and booked a lesson through one of the big corporate tour operators. They cancelled on me the night before because either they could not find an instructor, or they were full. I was really disappointed. While I was out that same night, I met a woman who told me her hypercritical brother took a lesson with Xiulta Riders and had nothing but praise for his experience. She stressed how unusual this was for him and I booked a lesson the next day.

My instructor was this business owner’s son, Jean Carlo. Jean Carlo is a really laid back, likable, young guy who speaks perfect english. Upon arriving at our destination, we proceeded to hike about 15 minutes, literally through the jungle. At the very edge of the jungle, I saw the largest crocodile I ever saw in my life. Just getting to my lesson proved to be a most memorable adventure!

The actual lesson was both informative and fun! I was able to stand up on the board and actually ride a wave! Yeah, I still totally suck, but I am thrilled by the progress Jean Carlo helped me achieve in a short period of time.

I can’t recommend Xiutla Riders highly enough and if you’re anything like me, who prefers his money goes to the people who actually do the work, book a tour with this family business forthwith. You won’t be disappointed!

Best experience ever!!!!
My family and I visited Puerto Vallarta together and had Fernando and Humberto as our guides! We went out for a morning of surf lesson and then they brought us to Sayulita to explore and have some food. Not only was the entire tour an experience of a lifetime, but the guides made it even better by becoming long time friends. I definitely recommend this tour and would also recommend to request Humberto and Fernando as your guides!

We had an amazing experience learning to surf with Fernando! He spent time with each of us to make sure we were comfortable and confident in the water and on the board. Everyone in our group was up on the board within a couple try’s! I definitely recommend this experience for anyone who has ever thought about surfing! Take time to visit Sayulita for a great lunch after surfing!

unique and awesome experience
Jan 2020
We did this tour on our last stop during a 7 day Princess cruise and this was my favorite day of the trip. Fernando is beyond great. He picked us up from the port and we drove about 30 minutes to a surf shop where you can get snacks, use a restroom, and borrow rash guards. Then it's a little walk through some woods to the beach. This was all well worth it especially once we learned more about the surf break locations and amount of people who visit them. The beach was beautiful and there were other surfers and people around but it felt like a good amount of space for everyone. Fernando gave us instructions on the beach which included warm up stretching and practicing getting up on the board. Then we went into the water, which was delightfully warm. I am (have always been) a bit nervous about water, the temperature is usually always an issue and I don't like imposing myself into other creatures’ environments. I've always wanted to learn to surf, but it was my 13 year old's desire and push that got me there. That matched with Fernando's affinity with the ocean made it easy to relax. He knew which animals are around and when (based on migratory patterns) and helped us watch the waves and learn which ones to paddle into and try to ride. I felt safe with him around. My daughter and I took turns for a while with Fernando in the water advising on waves. It was lovely just to be on the board floating in the water with the warm sun shining and gorgeous views. After some practice and time I really started to feel the flow, and by the end I felt like I had learned to surf. My 13 year old daughter liked it too, but unfortunately had a little wipe out that turned her off of it for the day. Fernando had a first aid kid on hand and offered to head to a nearby surf town called Sayulita for lunch. So we packed up and went back to the shop, they had an outdoor shower to rinse off with which was nice. We drove to the town, parked and walked a few mins to a restaurant by the action near the water. Food and service was great. You can tell Fernando is well loved in the community. After we ate, my daughter and I wandered around town and the beach for a bit before meeting to head back. It was clear here how Fernando knows his stuff and I was grateful we had gone to the other more secluded spot to surf. The town was interesting and fun to walk around, very colorful, lots of shopping and things happening. Once we were ready, Fernando brought us back to the Princess port boarding area which was perfect since we were cutting it close on time (due to our getting a late start which he was very accommodating about, otherwise timing would have been more than enough).

Overall, this was a stellar experience. I hope to visit PV again someday to try the ATV adventure, paddle boarding, biking or surfing again. I feel like a new and better person after this day – one of those magical moments in life that lifts the spirit.

If you want to learn to surf, this is your spot! Top notch.
