        Mediocre English Tour
My wife and I took the English language tour which lasted from 3:00 to 4:30. The tour guide was nice but the tour wasn’t too impressive. She spent too much time in certain areas and solicited too much input from our tour group as to where we should spend time. We would have gotten a lot more out of our visit had we just used the audio guide. If you schedule a tour, be aware that it takes at least 5 minutes to get from the road to the inside of the museum.

        Unrivalled treasury
We ventured out by public transport, to the suburb of Shillin, to the National Palace Museum (you have to get a bus for the last part). The existence of this museum of priceless Chinese art and artefacts in Taiwan is down to the political history. The collection was in fact that of the last emperor of the Qing dynasty, who was overthrown by the Nationalist Revolution in 1924, built up by the emperors over the years. To protect this unique treasury of Chinese culture, the authorities founded the National Palace Museum. Because of the threat of war with Japan, the collection was moved several times around China until, in 1945, the Japanese were defeated. In 1949 the Nationalist Government, the Kuomintang, was defeated by the Communists, and their leader, Chiang Kai-Shek, decamped to Taiwan, taking 2 million of his followers with him and the entire museum collection. (The population was only 6 million at the time, so the 2 million had little difficulty in setting themselves up as the authentic rulers.) In 1965 the present building was completed to house it. From the bus stop we walked through Zhisham classical Chinese garden to the exhibition hall, well worth the detour. There was not time to view the entire collection. For me, the Buddha room and the Calligraphy room were a bit dull. If short of time, you could give the current Special Exhibition a miss. But the “Garland of Treasures” was especially stunning. I marvelled at the carved olive stones, the Cloisonné work, the carved concentric ivory balls and the animated painting. The Jade gallery was also very striking, though the prize Jadeite Cabbage was out on loan. There is a fine collection of ceramics, though I recently saw some more striking examples in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. A good value lunch is available in the café, but don’t lose your tickets, as it’s outside the gallery area. Staff walk about silently with fans asking you to speak in a low voice.

        Excellent Museum
A huge museum that has many artifacts and art pieces from different times throughout China’s history. It may be hard to see it all in one day.

$12 USD to see world-class Chinese treasures
The vast collection of Chinese art and artifacts here is fascinating. The museum provides a fascinating glimpse into China's rich cultural history. There is a free locker room by the admission booth. It's totally free and a staff crew will be there to look after you're belongings. As for the queue, Iwaited nearly 10 mins to get my entry ticket. If you can get the ticket online, totally do it!

Lots of cultural items and information to see and learn about Taiwan's history. Many rooms that feature different art pieces, and informational areas about Taiwan. Gift shop is large and has many cultural items. Very nicely designed inside. Audio tours available in many languages. Beautiful grounds and beautiful architecture.

        A Day Full of History
This is an amazing museum that is worth the trip and spending a couple of hours there. The exhibits are rich in history and culture. Was disappointed that the “cabbage” and “fatty meat” were out on “business trips”.

A Must Visit for Museum lovers
If you love museums especially history museums, do not miss this place. I was there to see plenty of interesting exhibits and you can see a lot of artifacts dating centuries old which says a lot of Taiwan's rich history. My 5 year old son was with me too and they have an interactive children's area where kids can learn and do activities.

        Great Museum
Contains the pre-WW2 Chinese Forbidden City art collection. The exhibits span 3 floors of a large building and are presented very nicely. There were English translations for each item which was excellent. A must see if visiting Taipei.

A vast number of exhibits so help is needed
We had originally intended to take the guided tour only to learn all tickets has been sold for the day. Some guidance is helpful to the untrained eye because there are so many exhibits, it is impossible to take everything in and understand which exhibits are ‘must see’. However, there is a good self-guide on their website ‘classic tour II’ and ‘the emperor’s toy box’ that takes about two hours and covers all the highlights. The museum is split into individual rooms and the signage is good. Lots of tour groups in evidence but generally it never feels too crowded because of its size. The oldest pieces are on the top floor and some of the craftmanship particularly the jade pieces is amazing. Said to be the best collection of Chinese art in the world and we can see why. A place that should be visited on a tour of Taiwan.

        Only Jade Cabbage Available
Was really looking forward to visiting this museum for the first time but ended up a little disappointed. The jade cabbage was nice buy was super crowded. The dongpo pork, meanwhile, was on a road tour and currently in Yilan. Otherwise, the scrolls, porcelain pieces and scriptures etc were similar to what could be found in any large museum in Beijing or Shanghai. The pieces were well curated but, after a while, did become a little unifom and unexciting. It did not help that there were so many tour groups traipsing around the place.

Take your time and wonder deeply
The National Palace Museum is a collection of historic artefacts which have been miraculously preserved over the centuries. Some artefacts include "must see" things such as the jade cabbage and the tiny boat, carved from an olive pip. The National Palace displays the world's best collection of Chinese culture, take your time and wonder deeply.

        Excellent Museum
What I liked about this place was that, although it was very crowded with people, there was still plenty of room to move around. The place is vast, spread over several floors and many galleries. The jade and ceramics collections are world-class. Paintings and calligraphy also on show. Excellent shop.

Well worth the 2 hour or so of browsing at the easy to get to museum. Buses/shuttle operate reqularly to this place. A reasonable admission charge allows freedom to see many interesting articles.....blue/white cabbage jade, ancient bronzes, carved ivory balls, some porcelain bowls, carvings etc. You can hire audios and many guards are available to help etc.

General admission cost 350 NT which would have been quite reasonable however at the time of visit (March 2020) there was a large exhibition on the ground floor closed awaiting new items and also the famous Jade Cabbage is not in the museum (currently at the southern museum in Chiayi I believe).

Other than this the museum is very well maintained and worth a visit (cannot take train to museum into bus, taxi, etc). I just wish it was made known prior to payment that the Jade Cabbage was not there and one of the exhibitions was closed.

This museum is definitely a must for any traveler visiting Taipei.
There is a large amount of artifacts on display, of an exceptional quality.
And the display itself is very good.
However, even with the ample space around the displays, the large groups with a guide standing in front of the displays for a long time, while the guide did their explanation, made our experience not a happy one.
I would encourage the museum to limit the groups to 6 people or less and instruct the guides to be respectful of other visitors and to move away from the display while they speak to their group for longer than a few seconds.
I would still recommend a visit. But, expect to negotiate big crowds, especially at the rare "cabbage jade" display room, where thankfully groups with a guide were not allowed in.

This was something that all the guide books tell you to visit in Taipei. I'm not much of a museum person but I don't mind a wander through a museum if it's properly air conditioned, organised and has plenty of seats - which this one is.The building itself is one of the best things about it so please remember to venture outside and look at the terrace.
There are a lot of exhibits to take in so I advise you to pick out a couple of things that sounds interesting a do those first, otherwise you can get a bit overwhelmed by the quantity. The jade cabbage and 'meat' are the most well known so you should see those to tick off your list. Both are much smaller than you might expect but quite fascinating.
Ask the front information desk to book you a taxi when you've seen enough. They will give you a number plate of the one that's for you. Don't stand at the rank as you'll find every taxi that arrives is booked.

One of the top three largest museums in the world. Worth to visit, enrich history, cultural relics, and art, it can really take more than half a day. Dont missed the "must-see" white jade dish.

The Palace Museum had sent most of its prize exhibits to its branch offices southern Taiwan, which was a disappointment. The museum is still fascinating, especially if you take time to look closely at the paintings and ceramics. Some things, such as calligraphy, will only interest visitors with an in-depth knowledge of Chinese culture. The National Palace Museum remains the most comprehensive repository of Chinese art and artifacts in the world. You need around three hours to see it properly.

The museum was interesting with many items from Chinese history going back 3000 to 5000 years. We spent 2 hours wandering between the different rooms and floors and found a lot of things to interest us. At the end we went to the basement to the children's zone, but unfortunately this part of the museum is closed until March 2020.

If you can, don't miss a visit to this national Palace Museum. It is "only" the best museum in the world to understand the history of Chinese civilization throughout its most critical cultural productions. The museum collection of ceramics, bronzes, ancient turtle shells, lacquers, manuscripts, calligraphy, textiles, and furniture is unique and highlights the main cultural periods of classic Chinese history. Moreover, the museum has new displays and careful presentations. It was precisely in this museum that I finally understood the famous imperial examination system. The museum has very educational showcases on the subject, highlighting the studies' demands, the exams preparation, spaces, and realization. The museum also has a magnific souvenirs shop and a decent coffee shop.

We visited this museum on our day trip in Taipei. Many of the artefacts in this museum were taken from China when Chiang Kai Shek left China in 1949 preserving some of the most valuable treasures of China. The Museum has quote a few archeological preserved items that dates back many centuries. The most interesting item on display is the Jade Cabbage which is a national treasure of Taiwan, and must see in the museum.
Overall a must visit location in Taipei.

There are lots of rare and priceless treasures. Make sure you see the Jade Bok Choy, Jade Fat Pork Meat and the Engraved Pot. There was a queue to view but it was very fast and organized. The best time to go early as it is less crowded.
Definitely a must see attraction and worth the visit!
