Airline Summary

Formerly known as SATA International, Azores Airlines (S4) is a subsidiary of SATA Air Açores that is based in São Sebastião, Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, Portugal. Founded in 1990, the airline operates from a hub at João Paulo II Airport (PDL). Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS) is a focus city. SATA International flies to about 25 destinations and seven countries in Africa, Europe and North America. The carrier's fleet of nine aircraft has three Airbus A310-300, three Airbus A320-200 and one Airbus A330-200. Each plane features both Business Class and Economy Class seating.

Agree with other reviewers that this is not really a professional airline. This is a circus operated by a bunch of yahoos. avoid at all cost. I had the misfortune of booking a oneway ticket from Lisbon to Boston. Tap got me to Terceira. But got stranded in Terceira thanks to these unprofessional airline. Alreay knowing that there are issues with the plane they made everyone come to the airport for an 8:25 flight on August 23, 2024. There were no announcements we figured something was off by talking to each other and checking online. Finally they updated the screens saying flight was delayed until 2 something. Airline provided no vouchers we were all on our own. There was one tiny store that sold milkbread and that's all most of us who were stuck had to eat. We finally left around 5:30 9 hrs later. Up to this date airline has not even complied with EU laws for compensation. Avoid this airline at all cost.…

Flight delayed with no information as to why. Connecting flight was out of Toronto CA to Vancouver BC. Missed flight and had to stay overnight in Toronto. Filed complaint and after eight months got reply offering credit or compensation. Asked for compensation and waited several weeks. Sata had all the requested banking information. After several calls to Sata staff finally got answer from complaint dept that they now wanted more personal information - i.e. that I have my bank provide Sata documents and that it must be accompanied by a copy of identification documents of all passengers. I refused to send them now more personal information on line to likely be told in another 6 months they need more information. Terrible airline with absolutely no way to contact the complaint department. No other airline would be allowed to stall passengers like this - all in an effort to not pay you for your missed flights. Avoid at all costs.…

Worst airline company ever! First we have canceled flight from Flores to Ponta Delgada. When we finally came to Ponta Delgada, our flight to Lisbon was delayed three times, we started with boarding then we go back to the gate. There were three older people in wheelchair and the stuff drive them from one place to another like some baggage. Stuff didn't tell us any information about flight. Customer support is terrible. After one year we still didn't received refund! Never again!!!…

Let’s just say they have different terms for carry on luggage. An absolute cash grab airline. I’ve flown to the azores over 30 times and it’s at the point I believe that the airline is either broke or completely out of their minds. I wanted to avoid checking luggage but over 1kg I was unable to take luggage on board. Furthermore they literally charged me for a full checked luggage at $120 dollars. The idea was that I would pay and take luggage on board but I was not allowed. The ignorance of this airline is deplorable. It’s a reflection on the delegates of this airline who by all accounts are incompetent. Thanks for flying CASH GRAB AIRLINES. GOD I LOVE DELTA!!!…
