Jersey - Bristol
International
Booked a short trip from Bristol Airport to Jersey 24/9/2024 to 27/9/2024. Flight out ok and arrived basically on time. Coming back to Bristol our return flight was 18.00 and arrived in time for check in opening at 15.15. We went through security after a little delay and went up to the observation floor to view the planes arriving and departures as there was plenty of seating there. The boarding gate was never given on the departure screens, just a message advising gate will appear shortly. At 18.30 an email came through to say flight was cancelled., followed by an announcement to go and collect your luggage from the arrivals hall, any duty free purchases to be returned to store where bought and exit the airport. Blue Island is Channel Island based, so aren’t covered by U.K. or Eu Laws.No staff , apart from luggage handlers were visible. We then had text telling us to rebook a new flight if required, which we did, managed to book next day 28/9 departing 16.40 to Bristol. No help with where we were going to stay or getting back to St Helier. Luckily a bus pulled in and some others got on too. We managed to book a hotel opposite the bus station for the night. Jersey airport closes at 9pm so unless you want to sleep in the bus shelter you have to stay in a hotel. On returning home we put in a claim to our insurance company Axa, through Coop Bank. Been waiting for their settlement, rang every week and today they promised to get an email to us with their decision, we were not impressed! They say they will give us £100 in total for delayed flight. We’ve declined the offer as our claim including hotel, 2coffees in hotel, transport to get to airport and Bristol airport fee for extra day parking came to £306 which they had all receipts for. Waiting to hear back from them, will escalate further.…

East Midlands - Jersey
International
As with many other reviews on this site, our flight from East Midlands to Jersey was concelled. Our flight home was cancelled, rearranged for 48 hours later and cancelled again. All without prior knowldge or compensation, we didn't even get offered a drinks voucher. No representative of Blue Islands works at the airport so all discussions are with airport staff who can't really do anything other than rebook flights. Various excuses were given, poor weather, no available staff and no available plane at one point. We were £800 out of pocket with additional hotel stays, taxis, additional flights, extra car parking etc etc etc, not to mention the enormous levels of stress. We are entitiled to no compensation because the business is based in Guernsey, I have had this confirmed from Jersey Citizens Advice. I know Jersey residents rely on this airline to get to the UK for jobs, hospitals etc, but holiday makers please do not use them unless you are insured to the hilt.…

Our experience was a sage of incompetence and a total failure in delivering customer care. This was a connecting flight for a well needed holiday after some serious issues and family bereavements. We missed our connection due to Blue Islands and ended up having to book a new outward trip the following day with another airline which cost a lot of money and lost us a day of our holiday (with the cost of a days accommodation etc) and the resulting stress of having to deal with everything. Flights were booked for two people travelling JER-BRS-TFS outbound on 10/10/23 and returning 20/10/23; Jersey JER - Bristol BRS via Blue Islands dep 09:10 arr 10:10 on Flight no: SI4474 Bristol BRS - Tenerife TFS via TUI dep 14:15 arr 18:25 on Flight no: TOM6278 We arrived early at Jersey airport on the 10th and after checkin we were called to the gate for departure as scheduled around 08:25. We got to the gate and waited and observed the inbound aircraft arrive on schedule and passengers deplane. We were then told we had to change gates to go on a different aircraft. No explanation was given for this but the ground agent appeared confused as to the reason and said it was possibly weather in Bristol. The aircraft waiting at the new gate appeared to be the same type to the one we had been due to leave on, so it seemed very unlikely that the change was due to the weather being outside of the operational limits of the type of aircraft. It was also possible to observe other flights arriving and departing at BRS using Flightradar website, and from the Bristol Airport arrivals information available online. Having transferred gates and waited, we were then told by another ground agent (Turnaround Co-ordinator?) that the flight would not leave until 11:00, so we were escorted back to the terminal and asked to wait. On our return we observed that the departure board said that our new departure time was 12:00 not 11:00. We were called to the gate again for boarding around 10:00 but on arrival at the gate we were then told once again that the flight would not depart until 16:30 so we taken back to the terminal once again. As we would have missed our connecting flight from Bristol airport to Tenerife and there was no alternative flights available I contacted Blue Islands helpline (01234589200) to ask if they could transfer us to alternate flights, but they were unable to offer alternative flights before Friday 13th October, and they said they would not be able to offer a refund as it would be our choice not to travel later on the delayed flight scheduled to depart at 16:30 (even though this would have left us stranded in Bristol). We also contact TUI to inform them that we would be missing our connection. They also informed us that the flights BRS-TFS were not refundable. On returning home I looked for alternate flights. No alternative flights were available on the original carriers for several days, but I was able to book alternate flights with EasyJet travelling via Gatwick the following day. This was the only viable alternative. It was necessary to book these flights separately as Easyjet did not offer a through connection. The cost of these flights was (JER-GAT £154.95 + GAT-TFS £227.47 plus an additional baggage charge of £48 paid at the airport) = £466.93. We lost one day of our holiday and I was unable to change the arrival date at our accommodation as it was too late. The cost of the lost days accommodation was £43.94. I contacted Blue Islands helpline once more and asked them to supply a letter confirming the reason for the flight being delayed so that I could claim on my travel insurance. I was told (I believe the agents name was Martin) that a letter would be sent via email attachment later that day. No email or letter was received. I subsequently contacted the Helpdesk again and was told that the agent that I spoke to was not on duty but that he would be asked to contact me on his return. I heard nothing more, so contacted the helpline once again and was again told that the agent would contact me. On this occasion I was informed by the agent that I spoke to that the reason for the original aircraft not leaving on time was that it required a part, and that the part had not arrived in Jersey on the inbound flight due to weather conditions elsewhere. I explained that in any reasonable view that the immediate cause of the delay was therefore technical, the weather being a secondary cause. I have received no email or phone call. I was unable to pursue a claim on my travel insurance without confirmation of the flight delay from Blue Islands helpline, so I called them yet again on Sunday 29th October and spoke to Maria. She assured me that according to their system a letter had been sent. I confirmed that I had not received this. She told me that the contents of the letter would give the cause of the delay as being weather. I explained that I had been told that a part had not been available and that in my view weather was a secondary issue and the primary issue was technical due to lack of a part being available. She attempted to contact the Operational department to try to obtain more information while I was on hold, but she was unable to establish the facts and said that as she was on duty all day she would undertake to confirm the true situation and would email me later the same day. No email was received. I have never received any compensation from Blue Islands and will never fly with them again. I have only given one star as it was not possible to leave zero.…

Jersey - East Midlands

Flight cancelled from Jersey to East Midlands after checking in. Booked onto next available flight but this was to Southampton and not to East Midlands as no flights available for a couple of days. We had to pay for a taxi in Jersey, an overnight in a hotel in Jersey, and a train fare from Southampton to our home in the North of England. Blue Islands refused to reimburse any of these We will not be visiting Jersey again.…

Blue Islands cancelled our flight recently, no prior notification until we got to airport. Girl on checkdesk said there was no representative to talk to from their airline? Blamed on weather which fair enough, safety comes first. Had to get taxi and hotel overnight out of own pocket, no recompense or responsibility, not even apology email. Next day not many on flight we were bumped onto. Our guess was that our original flight was quite empty on the previous day so easier to put us on next days flight to save cost! Would have been nice to be acknowledged though. Lack of communication and very poor customer service from start to finish. Will not be using again and would not recommend. Stay away or use EasyJet in future.…
